TAN Douay Rheims

I’ll admit that I re-watched the Passion of the Christ last weekend, and have fallen in love with the Douay’s style once again. (Sometimes its oldy world language creeps me out, I don’t know why, but right now I’m loving it again)

I was just wondering about the quality of the TAN Publishers version of this Bible, as I have a Baronius Soft cover Leather Douay Rheims which actually comes across as looking rather cheap. (The pages look like theyre going to fall out when you open it to any page) Also I have the compact version, which several pages of maps at the end have fallen out of!

I must say I’m very disappointed with Baronius because my Missal from them is gorgeous and really good quality.

So is the TAN Books version of the DR any better? Maybe I’ll get a hardback from Baronius, I just dont know whether to risk them again, especaially at the cost they charge.

I’ll have to eventually use them again because I’m awaiting their release of Knox’s Vulgate Translation Anybody have good pictures of the Tan version, or could PM me some pictures they could take, or can tell me if it has any additions such as Papal letters like the Baronius Version. The only image I can see on the internet is the cover of their version. Thanks!

I have a soft-cover TAN DR which I purchased in 2001 and have used extensively over these past years. The only thing which is showing signs of wear is the peeling lamination on the soft covers.

The print is easy on my eyes with plenty of white space on the page compared to the Ignatius RSV-CE.

There is a “doctrinal index” in the back, as well as a few black-and-white maps; a table of readings for the TLM as they were prescribed in the late 19th century; and a few other accessories.

But the text contains Challoner’s notes, along with book intro’s, chapter headings, cross-references; nowhere as extensive as those of the New Jerusalem Bible, of course, but certainly more orthodox.

The bad news: I don’t know if TAN still offers it. I bought mine from an online used book seller; it was “like new” and came shrink-wrapped, with nary a wrinkle or spot on any page.
