Teach my about Indulgences, please

A bit of backstory.

My father died this pass spring. His life was a life of being a slave to sin. On Friday of Passion week he was reconciled to God, died on Weds of Holy Week (and had a REMARKABLE Happy Death!! Members of my family were there to witness the beauty of it. It was so beautiful that he had a smile upon his face right after he saw whatever it was he saw) and funeral Mass was Monday of the Octave of Easter. (His being the first time the new blessed Paschal candle was used, having just been blessed a couple less that 48 hours earlier)

I have little doubt that he needs some time in Purgatory. The way he lived his life, there is no way he would be comfortable in the presence of God yet.

So last night I had a dream about him. He was “ok” yet he was not happy, and he was struggling. He wanted to move from where he was living. I invited him to live with me.

So I awoke with such an odd feeling over this odd dream.
I have had Masses said for him (gonna have more), including the Gregorian 30.
But I want to learn about indulgences now.
What do I need to know.
Any help will be helpful. Thank you.

X. INDULGENCES

1471 The doctrine and practice of indulgences in the Church are closely linked to the effects of the sacrament of Penance.

What is an indulgence?

"An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints."81

"An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin."82 The faithful can gain indulgences for themselves or apply them to the dead.

1498 Through indulgences the faithful can obtain the remission of temporal punishment resulting from sin for themselves and also for the souls in Purgatory.

Also, try reading Paul VI’s “The Book of Indulgences”, from 1968. It will talk about what indulences are, why they exist, how they are used. Pay attention to the part about “Norms”.

You can’t give your indulgences to someone who is alive, but indulgences may always be given to the dead. Here is a list of different activities you can work on with the intention of offering any indulgences on his behalf. But don’t forget the key elements of Confession, Communion, and prayer on behalf of the intentions of the Holy Father.

Psalm 129 (De Profúndis) is traditionally prayed for the faithful departed and is partially indulgenced, so you could say that. As a side note, since indulgences aren’t fixed with days or years anymore to show how much temporal punishment is remitted, a partial indulgence means the normal satisfaction gained is doubled.
