I have two weeks remaining to teach my second graders before First Communion. I think I am doing OK but I would like to have a little more (name removed by moderator)ut from my peers.

Could you give me your ideas about how you teach this “mystery of our Faith” to second graders? I think I had them pretty convinced today, but I realize it is a matter of “FAITH.”

Can anyone give me more insights, tidbits, any little discussions that will enhance my teaching?

Thank you so much!

Gigi

I’ll second Children of Hope, and recommend to you their video that explains the Mass to children.
So many children today do not receive adequate instruction at home, so there is just so much you can do in the classroom. My own experience is that you just teach them as best you can, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.

the children learn this from attending Mass with their families, watching, observing and drinking in all the words and actions of the priest and the congregation, especially their parents. If the respect, awareness and awe of the Real Presence are evident in the conduct of those at Mass, the child will absorb it. If it is absent, or if the child is not brought to Mass, he will not get it from your CCD class. That is the sad, sorry truth. The children will also be watching you in Church. do you genuflect, receive communion devoutly, kneel in prayer after communion etc.

you have probably taken them on a church tour and to church several times to “practice” have you taken them for a period of adoration, explaning what you are doing and why?
