Hi, I was asked to help with the RCIA, Adult Faith Formation, Childrens Confimation classes, etc. for the Parish.

Can someone please recommend good teaching material, even if only for my personal study purposes. I’m sure the Parish has an established program and materials, but I haven’t seen them yet. Besides, I want to make double-dog sure I am well grounded in the material. I owe it to the people whos formation I will be responsible for.

Thanks in advance for any help!

God Bless

You can never go wrong with the Catechism! 😉 (I also recomment the one from the council of Trent - it goes into better detail.)

The Catechism is great for adults… but you might want to look for other resources for a younger class.

Good stuff… less “boring” than a lecture… 🙂

Bless you for teaching the faith!

Peace in Christ,

the catechism to wade into is a chunk, but to give you a guide on what passages to read in the catechism and scripture to prepare for a particular topic or Confirmation or RCIA session, I suggest Making Disciples from Our Sunday Visitor. thre is a new version just out. There is also a little book they sell that links the Sunday readings of all three cycles with the relevant catechism topics - mandatory if your parish has a lectionary-based program.

for orthodox, reliable, excellent RCIA program for adults a parish can do no better than the new Association for Catechumenal Ministry program distributed by ltp.org, Liturgical Training Publications. this is discussed on a thread about a month ago asking your same question.

for your personal preparation you should pursue catechist certification with your diocese. let us know what there program is and if it is really lame, you should go to the intermirifica website for Fr. Hardon’s Marian Catechist Training packet.
