Hello. I am getting ready to study ancient Greek by myself. Could anyone give some advice for studying Greek, particularly self-taught?

Dr. Mounce provides a pretty good beginner’s textbook (first year) with a very good workbook. This series makes learning ancient Greek fairly easy by minimizing memorization and presenting the material in a nice progressive methodology. There are also flashcards you can get on iPhone to help with vocabulary. The big thing I would say is just dedicate a set time everyday in your studies. I used to study during my lunch hour. You will also want to get access to the Greek New Testament and/or Septuagint to practice. These are actually widely available from app stores, or through Logos software and other electronic platforms. Lastly, the NASB (New American Standard Bible) is a good resource to compare your translation work against, as it is a very literal translation. I actually enjoyed it.

Thank you both for your excellent advice, I really appreciate it! If anyone else has any more tips I would greatly welcome them! 🙂

Thanks again! They should be useful even if they weren’t specifically written for self-study, even if just for reference. I can use any help! 🙂

memrise is a great website. I am not sure if it has τηισ κινδ οφ γρεεκ (disclaimer I don’t know exactly what that says. ) There is also a site called tyndal which has fonts and keyboards for hebrew and greek scripts.
