Any suggestions on a tract or web site with clear instructions on praying the rosary including the mysteries?

My 85 year old mother, who is a life-long devout evangelical protestant has shown an interest in the rosary and I am afraid although I have been a catholic for some twenty years I am not qualified to teach her. I am 62 but she has a sharper mind then me. Might have something to do with what I was doing in the sixties and seventies… when she was praying for her “hippy son”. I always have a problem remembering the mysteries and I am ashamed to say usually just say the prayers without meditating on the mysteries.

Learning to pray the Rosary is not difficult. There is a nice website that will help you in the beginning but once you look at the Mysteries you will realize that they are the life of Christ as seen through His Mother’s life.

And that is something that your mother will understand if you explain it that way.:byzsoc:

There are countless little pamphlets and books available to assist in praying the Rosary - they will help your focus so that your mind does not wander. Goggle “Holy Rosary” and you will find many and there may be some at your parish church. Does your Parish have a time set aside to pray the Rosary together? You should check the parish bulletin.

Buy your mother a beautiful Rosary and have it blessed by your Priest and get started together. Take it slow and easy and God Bless You.

This is a great site online … it helps me to keep my mind from “wandering” as I pray the rosary. It also gives you a piece of scripture to meditate on while you pray the Hail Marys as well as beautiful artwork while you meditate on each mystery!

Here it is simply:

Begin with the Sign of the Cross and pray the Apostles’ Creed while holding the crucifix.

Pray an Our Father (first single bead)
Pray three Hail Marys (next three beads)
Pray the Glory Be (next single bead) and announce the first mystery then pray the Our Father (same bead).

Then Pray 10 Hail Marys (this is called a decade).

Then again pray the Glory Be and the Fatima Prayer on the next single bead and announce the next mystery and then pray the Our Father.

Before each decade, announce the next mystery, followed by an Our Father.

After the five decades are completed, pray the Hail, Holy Queen.

Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy. Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

This is not complicated and will bring much joy to your mother as she recalls the life of Jesus at each mystery. And, if you chose to say a mystery on a different day than suggested, please do so.

Send me a PM with your address andI will send you a booklet that my DH and I give to our Confirmation kids, parents anyone who asks… It is from the Dominicans… I think someone posted their website…

Pray the rosary aloud with her. She’ll pick it up easily enough.
Exactly…just pray the rosary with her in your spare time on the weekends. She will learn it fast enough if you show her how to pray the rosary. [Also if she quilts or crochets you can purchase twine or cord rosaries online at pronto.com and the stores that sell rosary making kits are found there.[COLOR=“Blue”] rosary.com has a $3.50 rosary making kit that if she were interested in making her own rosary. I am purchasing a kit to make my family members some rosaries. * These are all helpful websites, but it is easier to follow the rosary prayer groups that are on this site already.

God Bless you and your family
Hope to see more of you in the future!
