Good day all, I just wanted to get your thoughts and suggestions on teaching the faith to teenagers. I have a 14 year old brother who has not been baptized or raised in the faith. He lives several states away, but he and my mom are moving near me this summer. He is going to join the Church within the next year or two, but in the meantime, he needs religious instruction. I plan to teach him with a home catechism course when he moves ere, but recently, as a result of prayer, I’ve decided to send him letters detailing my experience with the faith and giving him kind of an informal religious instruction and teaching him about Jesus. Do you think this is a good idea? Any tips or suggestions? My brother and I aren’t very close, probably because of our age difference, and he is very shy. I think the letters are a good idea because he can retreat to him room and read and reread them at his leisure and without pressure.

Which home catechism courses have you found useful? Any other resources that you can think of?

Thanks, everyone. Please say a quick prayer that I’ll be able to reach my brother and that Jesus will open his heart to the faith.
:blessyou:

The Midwest Theological Forum has four outstanding Catechesis textbooks, the Didache series. This group is Opus Dei I believe and heavily endorsed by Cardinal George, that was all the endorsements I needed.

I’m 24 and my brother just turned 14. He’s not currently attending Mass or received religious instruction of any kind.

Thanks

Hi Steph,
There is a Catholic Family Ministry in your area which can help you. Couples for Christ (CFC) has two ministries which might interest you. First is CFC-Singles for Christ (SFC) which is dedicated to the Spiritual development of single men and women (this is not a dating service) between the ages of 22 and 40. My wife and I lead the SFC-Chicago Chapter. The second ministry is CFC-Youth for 13 to 21 year olds (divided into two groups High School and College based). The CFC-Youth is a pier-to-pier ministry. Your brother might accept the truth if he hears it from someone his own age…just remember, You are old and don’t know what it’s like to be a kid (teenager point of view).

I recommend you look into the SFC in you area and check them out. couplesforchrist.us/uscontacts.php?state=MD

God Bless,
DHGray

P.S. I’m here if you have any question.

Super easy with a ministry like CFC-Youth. My daughter has a good friend who converted from Budhaism to Christianity throught the CFC-Youth and is waiting to her 18th Birthday to go to RCIA. Programs like this work…Praise God.
