As a married Catholic with three children (11 months, 2 years, 4 years) part of my vocation is helping pass the faith along to my children. Basics taught so far are the sign of the cross, prayer before meals, prayer before bed, attending Mass. What are some other age appropriate ways to teach the faith? The children are not yet fully literate but can repeat simple things especially the oldest.

There’s some pretty cute catholic kids toys that you could look up!! You’re doing a great job so far. It’s hard to teach kids a ton at that age as it’s difficult for them to comprehend.

I know when I was young I learned the basics of Adam and Eve, the birth of Jesus, and some about Mary

Children’s books with age-appropriate stories about Jesus, stories about Biblical figures, and stories about saints are always good. You can read them to your children.

When I was a preschooler and primary schooler I had several books from the Arch Books series, with stories about Jesus and other stories from the Bible (parables, Jonah etc). I really enjoyed them and they still publish the series, although the illustrations have been updated.

I also remember a video series called “The Flying House” for young children, that had Bible stories. I think it was made by Protestants, but since the stories were at children’s level, there wasn’t really any difference from the Catholic faith.

There are many children’s bibles out there, and there are differences, so choose with care.

When I did this, ages ago, I went to a large, physical (not online) bookstore, so I could actually see and compare the available children’s bibles, first and most importantly by the text, and
secondarily by the artwork.

The one I picked for my little children was the Gold & Honey Bible. Your choice might be different.
