What does the Catholic Church teach about telepathy? Do you think it is possible that it could be a spiritual gift for some people?:hmmm:

To my knowledge there is no teaching, as there is no evidence to suggest this phenomena exists or is spiritually important.

I have heard St Padre Pio could do this. But I looked up telepathy in the index of the Catechism and couldn’t find a single reference to it.

I read Sister Briege McKenna’s autobiography “Miracles Do Happen” and it the images she says the Lord presents to her in answer to prayers sounds like psychic phenomenon. I know this doesn’t answer your question about Church teaching. But like Padre Pio, she has some extraordinary gifts.

Yeah, I haven’t been able to find any Church teaching on it.

I’d say, yes, it would be possible for it to be a spiritual gift, with some being more able to use it than others. I mean, how often have we thought God was telling us something, not by auditory voice, but a little voice in our brains?

I think dreams can be a form of telepathy, as well, a visual kind, and if that is the case, then telepathy exists truly!

As for telepathy in between two mortal peoples, I’m not quite sure, though.

It can be a gift of the devil. I just read Moira Noonan’s book on her journey out of the New Age movement. She experiences psychic abilities that were a gift from the devil.

An Exorcist Tells His Story also says that the evil one can give psychic and supernatural abilities.

Fr. Amorth says that some people do have charisms from the Holy Spirit that help them discern spiritual presences. They are often active in deliverance ministries.

Telepathy- if you are talking about intuition, six senses, mind reading, I think God does give some people such abilities.

In St. Faustina’s Diary, she mentioned time and again that God revealed certain problems in certain souls to her. God gave St. Faustina to know the status of people’s souls and their interior intentions.

Telepathy could also come from devil. It is something we have to be very careful about. Personally I would not want to be able to read people’s mind. Imagine what disturbance of the peace of mind that could bring.

When we finally stand before God for the judgment all hidden thoughts will be brought out. Everything concealed will be revealed then. Before then, I think we ought to work on our own thoughts to be pure and leave others’ thoughts to themselves.
