personal opinion:

lately i have been wathing televangelist on TV…i feel them so empty, so bored, THE MORE I WATCH THEM THE MORE I LOVE THE MASS… please tell me what you love and or hate of televangelist.

the more televangelist i see…the more they draw me nearer to the Vatican

I think that you cannot fairly lump all televangelists into one group just as you cannot lump all priests into one group. Look at each on their own merrit and decide. I like some priests - I like some televangelists. I do not like some priests - I do not like some televangelists…

I am thankful for being Catholic too. There is alot of emontionalism and health wealthand prosperity doctrine taught there, and it does irritae or rather saddens me.But on the happy side they are showing Arch Bishop Fulton J.Sheen shows on there so they might get some seeds planted:)

Tele-evangelist like Benny Hinn and the big purple haired lady give a bad image for other tele-evanglist. But the Mass is a 1000 times better in my opinion 🙂

I can’t watch Christian TV for more than a few minutes. Most of it seems like an info-mercial. “Send us money so we can go to the nearest Catholic country and throw mud there too!”

I am a third Order member of the Norbertines and our Spiritual Director advises that we should not waste time or listen to preachers other than Orthodox Roman Catholic preachers. With that said, I can not help but tune in every Monday night to a tele-evangelist by the name of Dr. Jack Van Impe. 85% to 90% of the time he is more Roman Catholic in his preaching, than most Catholics I talk with. What I like most about him is that he is not afraid to call a spade a spade. He tells those so called Roman Catholics, that are not following the Magesterium, that they should either shut-up or get out of the church. I am not proposing that we lose any souls, but do agree one should not claim to be Roman Catholic and then preach a position that is Anti- Catholic.

Tune in sometime and give a listen, but know what the Roman Catholic chuch teaches about Millenniumism and the “Rapture” He holds a non Roman Catholic view on these topics. But he says a lot of things I wish I would hear our Bishops say!

Catholic priests and teachers who fail to teach the Truth, entire and whole do more damage to the faith than all the non-Catholic evangelists in the world.

I gave up on televangelist a long time ago. It all became hollow. First there was Oral Roberts. “The Lord told me that if I don’t raise $30 million in 30 days, He’s going to call me home.” This with tears streaming down his face as if that was the worst thing in the world that could happen. Isn’t our christian walk geared towards going home?

Then there was Jim and Tammy Faye. He got caught with his pants down. That was one thing. But the fall out from that was something else. Jimmy Swaggart said, publically, that anyone in the ministry caught commiting adultery, should step down from that ministry for at least a year. Well, ole Jimmy got caught with his pants down. What did he do? He said he would “lose” his ministry if he did so. Hem, hem. “HIS” ministry? Isn’t it suppose to be GOD’S ministry?

I believe there are some who are sincere in trying to serve God such as Billy Graham.

That said, what I have found in my journey back into the fullness of the Catholic Church, is that there is so much they are missing! The sacraments, the Holy Mass, the communion of saints, the Church’s teaching on suffering.

One convert on The Journey Home (on EWTN) said it well. When he was a protestant, he had a beautiful faith, like a Rembrandt painting. But when he became Catholic, instead of having one beautiful painting, he found an entire art museum!

I have also found that if you read scripture knowing the fullness of faith, it’s like having a whole new set of glasses on – you see everything so much more clearly!! Everything makes sense, nothing contradicts itself.

So please pray for all our separated brothers and sisters that they might find their own set of glasses and begin to see things clearly – the Truth, the whole Truth and nothin’ but the Truth!!

From Grodi’s show last week, the guest was explaining that the difference is the depth and breadth of theology…I agree…but I think the difference is one and one thing alone. The Eucharist. From the Holy Eucharist flow everything, our theology, sanctity, vocations, family, so on and so forth.

This 2000 year old church is fed literally by the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. And that is power.

The bible-only Christians accomplish much with Scriptures alone…imagine their fire should they come in full communion with the Holy Eucharist! They will help tremendously in cleaning up the world.

The ones that get me are those that I see that start praying for a healing and extend their hands out and tell the people that are watching them on TV to “… go up to the TV and put your hand on my hand and you will feel the power God flowing from me to you and healing you…”

Most fundamentalist televangelists are frauds; They are wolves in very expensive, but poorly made, sheep’s clothing (because anyone with any common sense can see right through their elaborately decorated appearance, and outward ‘piety’ to the greed and deceit that is inside them) who want nothing more than to con naive people, simple minded people, and senile people into giving them more money then they can afford to give, or should give.

The Catholic ones seem sincere- at least most of them do, so I don’t lump them in the category with the others. I only see them blatantly asking for money when they really need it- and they say they really need it when they do, and when they don’t need it, they don’t ask for money. Billy Graham seems like a decent person, although I disagree with his theology. Joyce Meyer seems like a decent person as well, but I disagre with her theology too.

I knew a fellow who would have them on the TV with the sound turned down. It really was kind of funny to watch.

Bishop Fulton Sheen is my favorite TV evangelist! You can find him on the ANGEL network (Protestant) or channel 262 on Dish TV. He is GREAT!

Of course EWTN has some great people too like Father John Corapi (sp?). I wish they had Bishop Sheen.

Beware though, the ANGEL network often does the old bait and switch trick with Bishop Sheen. One week they show him and the next they advertize him but run some Protestant TV preachers instead. Is this a deliberate trick to convert those lost Catholics to Jesus?

By the way, when you watch Bishop Sheen take note on the fact that what he teaches is still taught unlike Protestants that change beliefs with the wind! Find one Protestant preacher from 50 years ago and replay his show today and see what happens! (Pick one where they actually teach theology and not one where they just talk about how much they love God or scream how great God is. Get one tat talks about salvation or Blessed Mary etc…)
