One of the most comforting things I’ve seen and felt in the days right before and since the death of the pope is our Faith broadcast to the world. I saw more Masses yesterday broadcast on mainstream media than I’ve ever seen on EWTN.
I watch ABC News Now thru the internet since we have our TV set up only to play videos/dvds.
It has been non-stop coverage. The played news coverage (nearly the entire ceremony) form the day Pope John Paul became pope. I was only 6 years old on that day, and I have no memory of it -it was wonderful to watch.
They played coverage from many of the places the pope has traveled where he spoke to crowds and embraced people.
They brought up several times (with some ignorance) the churches teachings on abortion, contraception and woman priests. I’m sure some Sunday and Christmas/Easter Catholics are going 'What, the church *still *teaches against contraception? That can’t be right?"
I thought of some of the protestant Christians that may have never even seen a Mass, have now seen it several times in one day. I’ve found that many -mostly outside our faith- know very little about who the Pope was and what an impact he truly has made - any now they are being told.
Through our grief at the loss of our beloved pope it should be great comfort that through his death he has given us possibly one of the most wide spread evangelizations of the Faith to those all around the world. I can’t imagine much that would make him happier.

I am so heartened. I have never seen so much Catholicism on TV in ages! Well done to CNN for their remarkable coverage.

All has been positive Thank God. Doesn’t it make such a change?

It is beyond comprehension to me that anyone, with a straight face could have called him the antichrist!!:tsktsk:

It’s really ignorance anf false teachings that are promoted by some fundementalist groups. I’ve worked with a Fundementalist Baptist for many years whom (although never called him the anti-christ and rolled his eyes when I remarked that leaders like Bob Jones had) was amazingly ignorant about the role of the pope in the Church. I challenged him many times to back up some of his rediculous claims about the pope. He was forced to admit he had no personal knowledge to back his remarks. I then stated (not very calmly) that that is because “you just believe what someone else has told you, instead of finding out for yourself.”

It truly is ignorance, although some of those in higher positions I believe have purposly decieved their followers about the pope.

I have been thinking much the same thing. I have seen priests, bishops, cardinals all on the news channels all exlaining some aspects of our faith to the others. I have also (on fox news) seen at least three anchors come out as being Catholic.

Even in death, Papa is an evangelist!

Do we care that it invades the world? I think that should be one of our main goals. Isn’t that what evangelism is all about?🙂

Just like we want to be with the rest of our family when another family member passes on, I’ve had a great desire to be with my spiritual, global family, my Catholic brothers and sisters. I’ts been a great comfort to me to be able to see others praying, grieving and rejoicing with me from all around the world, and being in a forum like this one, though I’m usually a lurker, has been a blessing as well.

Okay, now GROUP HUG!!!😃

It truly is great to see our Faith and Tradition on display for the whole world. Many American Catholics never see the Vatican and the senior leadership of our Church professing and evangelizing. Most of what we’ve heard the last few years has been overwhelmingly negative. I pray the next few weeks brings about a paradigm shift for those who hold the Church and its followers in low regard.

The President, in my opinion, extended an olive branch from all Protestants by lowering the flag and attending Mass. He’s going out on a limb here, and I’m sure it makes many of his non-Catholic supporters anxious. The effect of seeing Catholics coming out of the wood-work in the millions surely cannot be denied.

My kids are young and are groaning because we’ve been keeping the TV on the news instead of Cartoon Network. I’m trying to explain to my son that it will be a long time before we hear anything but negativity about our religion on TV again. This afternoon, one of our neighbors, who is Methodist, cornered me in the yard and started asking a lot of questions about the Church. As she was leaving, she said, “Well, the Catholic Church has been around for 2000 years, so ya’ll are obviously doing something right”.

I love that finally our faith is being investigated and we are being told by the world how great our Pope was. We knew, but so often our coverage in the news is by the dissenters. Now they are looking for all the good in the Pope. I love it. I can’t stop watching.

I agree that this is a marvellous witness–as a Catholic-inclined Protestant, I find the whole thing extremely moving, and the spectacle of Catholic unity and of the respect JPII has been able to inspire has once again swayed me toward becoming Catholic (I’ve been vacillating on this subject for nearly ten years now, so don’t get your hopes up).

ABC radio has been very good and respectful towards our Holy Father. They did a good piece on his 2000 pilgrimage to Mount Siani, the Holy Land, and Yad Vashem.

Remember, use this time to speak to others about Jesus Christ when talking about Pope John Paul.

Indeed. Today I noticed a car with a bumper sticker from one of those non-denominational, mega-churches getting in the parking lot for Mass. As due to bad catechisis many Catholics are ripe for converting to such churches, perhaps JPII is working on them from Heaven already, bringing them back home. 😉

That’s kinda sad that the Fox guys had to come out as being catholic. Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity have for a long time claimed to be catholic and both said they went to Seminary. I know they get critisized for their Orthodoxy but hey at least they came out before it became fashionalbe.
