Telling angels and devils apart?

Hi,

I am new here, so I’d greatly appreciate if you could help me identify this story. The other night, I had a dream about a saint who was spending time out in a harsh environment, where he encountered both devils and angels. Some of the devils looked like angels, some angels like devils, and the saint said he could tell them apart by how he felt after they had left.

I vaguely remember reading this story somewhere. Is this in The Bible? Who was the saint? I was raised Catholic but have drifted in the last few years, so dreaming about a saint is quite meaningful to me. Please let me know if you know its origin.

I don’t know if this is a helpful guess - could it have been Saint Anthony of the Desert? I don’t recall encounters with holy angels, but I recall hearing how he was tempted constantly by demons. When he resisted all their attacks, a demon tried to tempt him to pride by saying how holy St. Anthony was. The demon wasn’t able to snare him with that one, either.
