Test the Catholic teachings

I was asked by my pastor to test some chatholic teaching’s and beliefs, to show me they would not stand up,i have done this on this catholic forum, however they have and i am very impressed,THANK YOU 🙂

Damo,that is great to hear. Maybe you will bring your pastor along when you convert! Can you give us some examples of the teachings you’ve asked him to test?

What teachings which have “stood up” have you found most surprising ? Just curious. 🙂

in regards to what questions this forum have argued well, sola scriptura in which i used many of my bible college notes to try to argue the point including many anti-catholic web sites, and the authority of the Pope and Rome was also argued well.It has become clear i have never been given the full story, only information that would lead me to believe i have the correct position.At this moment i feel as though every thing i stood upon has fallen down.

Don’t feel too badly. I had the same sort of experience and I just write it off to people heaping to themselves teachers having itching ears.

2nd Timothy 4:3 For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: 4 And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. 5 But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober.

Damo, I had a lady at my church that is converting from Baptist. She waded through all the anti-catholic literature and knew that something was wrong. She knew the 1 billion people could not possibly believe the stuff these people were claiming we believed. The research she did, wading through the anti-catholic literature and comparing it to what Catholics actually do teach, brought her home.

God love ya, Damo. A lot of us have been there; I’m getting that chill-in-the-gut I felt for the first time when I realized that sola Scriptura was unbiblical. At that time, I did not realize that the three-legged-stool of history, tradition and scripture was a much sturdier platform. And, of courses, there was this sick-to-heart feeling that came along with having to realize that the Catholic Church might not be the whore of Babylon after all.

For me, after sola Scriptura nose-dived, it was Confession that started to make sense, then Eucharist. Then, one by one, all the other stuff fell into place . . . But it can take time. Let yourself adjust.
 
Damo, I’m in the same place as you and everyday I realize the truth and beauty of Catholic teaching. It really is awesome.

It all starts with that. With me, it all started when people told me that Catholics “pray to saints” and I thought, “That’s odd, I’ll ask my Catholic girlfriend (wife now :)) if Catholics really do that,” and she explained what Catholics really do when they “pray to saints.”

I’m in the same boat with you but coming from an Anglican perspective. I want to encourage you that God will honor your search for truth. I know He has mine. All that I thought I knew has come tumbling down. It has been a spiritual identity crisis for me - full of stress and joy simultaneously. It has been wonderful and so hard at the same time. God be with you as you keep seeking Him.

Here is a quote from another convert that you might appreciate:
