Remembering how folk loved critter threads…

I own to 4 now, here on this lovely peaceful island.

One dog; a rescue who is now nearing 12. LOVES it here, as she can run free and wide. A russet! ie Jack Russell /Bassett cross, she is still totally unsocialised and a great watch dog.

Cats! Three. My older twins are over 12 and a wonder. In these cold times they keep me warm at night. Nothing quite like feet on a warm purring body… The boy comes for walks even but stops if he realises we are going far…

The young one! Jacob and a real tearaway.
Knows no boundaries, uninhibited and thinks nothing of getting smacked on the nose by boss cat girl, He was handed in aged one . They lost a treasure…

All my critters are Irish and have developed to suit the country genetically. Extra waterproof layer to their coats to repel our high rainfall … Dog is from Donegal so hardy and tough. Twins are Leitrim and gentler. Jacob is a true Kerryman! Big boned, ebullient, free thinking!
Love them all, my strays. They bless me mightily

Love all the critters. As St. Francis said; “All creatures of our God & King”.

I’m always happy to see you posting, Rosebud! ❤️

I’m happy to hear about your furry companions, too! ❤️

There’s nothing like a pet to give us unconditional love and companionship.

We always had cats in our home growing up, but when my parents split and my Dad remarried, he had dogs in his new home, and I used to love visiting with his dogs and playing with them.

He used to get them ready for a visit with me, and would tell them that we–my husband and I–were coming over for a visit, and it would be so cute because they would bring their toys out and would bring them over to me and then they would drop them at my feet, and then they would sit there and wait for me to start playing with them.

My Dad would encourage them and would say, “Look who’s here. Look who came over to play with you,” and that’s all that it would take for them to get into a playing frenzy with me! LOL!! 😁

I love both cats and dogs, and I have been lucky to have been around my Dad’s dogs and his Mom’s dog too while growing up.

She had a little Yorkie that was such a little character.

When we used to stay with my grandparents for vacations, she would let her dog in the bedroom my sister and I were sleeping in, and she would let him jump up on the bed and she’d tell him, “Wake 'em up! Wake 'em up!” and he would get all excited and would start licking our faces and would paw at the covers and his little tail would be wagging! ❤️

I am a real softy for animals. They provide us with so much comfort. Thank you Dear Lord for providing us with these blessings.

Currently we (my sister and i) have one boxer. Beautiful, loving animal. Only dog I ever met who hates water.

In the past I’ve had several cats. The most recent passed away a couple years ago. Rag doll. Used to belong to neighbor who passed away, and when she did, the neighbors daughter abandoned that beautiful animal. So I took her in.

Thank you for a nice thread amidst a bunch of really messy uncharitable threads.

Blessings,
Stephie

Thanks for the thread. I missed the old cat thread. My kitties are nearing 5 years now (next spring) and just turning into such wonderful cats. Chloe who is shy is getting braver and braver. She has started climbing on me just like Jack does - when I type on the laptop. Can’t see the screen, just the cat twisting this way and that, kneading my sweater, purring. Which is more important? I give up on the computer. Jack is mellowing out too - he stays in more and more, sleeps in the house all night, at last half the time. He is very affectionate. Has this weird way of rolling down the steps, one by one, like an otter, when we sit on the back or front steps. He does it at the neighbor’s too. Literally just rolls off each one, on purpose it seems. When I go to the door to let him out, he does a back flip against the door as a sort of ‘thanks’, then gets up while I open the door. I love them so much.

I love the way that you describe Jack’s behavior of rolling down the stairs! It sounds just sooo cute! LOL!! 😁 ❤️

I can just see it in my mind…!

We have all of these different toys and catnip toys for old kitty girl, and I love it when she likes to play with her giant catnip stuffed rat/mouse.

This toy is made out of fake fun fur, and it has a slit in its tummy where you can open it up and put in new catnip to freshen it.

She’s so cute and she’ll just “go at it” when she plays with it and she’ll try and pick the toy up with her teeth, and this toy is about 6" inches long! Heh heh! ❤️

I also dearly love God’s special creatures, the animals! ❤️

All of my life I’ve had cats and have nothing but happy memories of all of them. I lost my kitty Kaci 3 years ago and still feel sad about her loss and still miss her. 🐾 💖

My 2 cats are both 10 years old and their names are TigerLily and Sasha.

Sasha is a grey & white tabby who can be a spitfire at times but is usually very, very affectionate and cuddly. She sleeps on my bed every night. 🐱

TigerLily is an orange & white tabby and has an “angelic” disposition which is good because she has serious health issues that require daily meds and insulin and lots of vet visits. She used to play hard with her toys and gallop around the house but sadly no more. But I’m grateful to God that she’s alive! 🐈

Love the replies.
I omitted the new part of my life with cats.

My three are huge. Mayo cats it seems are tiny. When I arrived I was warned to be careful of my cats as there was an unholy terror of a tomcat who would attack any cat and had even done so to a fox… His owner refused to have him fixed.
One day Jacob came home with a tiny lookalike cat. Sweet wee shy thing I thought. Then I heard the caterwauling… Yep. it was Terrorist! Sprayed everything he could reach, including my washing … I confronted him one day and the evil hatred in that cats eyes was… shudder. If I went out leaving a window open? skunk attack…
But i have a great dog who has been trained SEE IT OFF! and the invader flees.
There is a sweet girl cat at the slipway when I come to the mainland . She is tiny and smallboned too. So that was why my three giants caused such a stir here and still are attracting attention…Boycat weighs about 28 lbs and is longhaired… Makes a lovely hot water bottle though!

Talking of critters, I was onthe curragh coming home one time in gusty winds and high seas and saw a head in the water… A seal was following the boat. THis place is sheer magic.

Had visitors… Heard the familiar sound and when I went out, there they were, a tall donkey with the most pronounced cross I have ever seen, and the tiniest tubby black pony. She could walk under the donkey… Sweet critters that live up the lane and had “escaped” . Safe as we are surrounded by the ocean
