Last Sunday, our church hosted a missionary priest who spent the last 10 years in the Congo in Africa. The stories he recalled of daily life of people there were absolutely heart wrenching. Killings, rape, and extreme poverty are a daily staple of life and he ended his homily wondering if God had forgotten them. Here we obviously have much to be thankful for and acknowledge that often in Sunday mass. However it begs the question, what exactly do people living in daily hell have to be thankful for?

How much more does Jesus the Saviour and Redeemer of the world need to be preached, where it is the darkest? His mercy, his love, his grace, comes where it is darkest and transforms it. Bless those missionaries who have left home, country and families to bring the gospel of Life.

It seems like people in third world countries seem to have a stronger faith than those in first world countries. Just my observation.
