If overeating is sinful, what determines when it is venial and when it is mortal? What about on a holiday, like today, when there is a lot of amazing food available and everyone is stuffing themselves? How does one avoid both mortal sin and scrupulously? Thank you!

If you are worried about committing mortal sin by eating a holiday meal, in a country where there are no food shortages/ famines/ hungry people in the street outside your house, you should really discuss this with your priest in person.

Such questions indicate possible scruples, and it is not helpful for people with scruples to ask questions on an Internet forum such as this.

We can eat good on Thanksgiving. Just dont eat till you throwup. That just means more leftovers for the rest of the week.

We know when to feast and we know when to fast. The leftovers make great meals later for next week.

A great idea is to fast in the morning and once everyone is gonna start the meal, that’s chow time 🙂
