"Thanksgiving Day in the USA" - but everywhere, let us pray!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Please let us pray today, wherever we are, for one another, for the Church and for ALL those in most need of God’s Mercy. God encourages us in St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin”:
5. Saying the Hail Mary and the Rosary
  1. Those who accept this devotion should have a great love for the Hail Mary, or, as it is called, the Angelic Salutation.
Few Christians, however enlightened, understand the value, merit, excellence and necessity of the Hail Mary. Our Blessed Lady herself had to appear on several occasions to men of great holiness and insight, such as St. Dominic, St. John Capistran and Blessed Alan de Rupe, to convince them of the richness of this prayer.

They composed whole books on the wonders it had worked and its efficacy in converting sinners. They earnestly proclaimed and publicly preached that just as the salvation of the world began with the Hail Mary, so the salvation of each individual is bound up with it. This prayer, they said, brought to a dry and barren world the Fruit of Life, and if well said, will cause the Word of God to take root in the soul and bring forth Jesus, the Fruit of Life. They also tell us that the Hail Mary is a heavenly dew which waters the earth of our soul and makes it bear fruit in due season. The soul which is not watered by this heavenly dew bears no fruit but only thorns and briars, and merits only God’s condemnation.
  1. Here is what our Blessed Lady revealed to Blessed Alan de Rupe as recorded in his book, The Dignity of the Rosary, and as told again by Cartagena: "Know, my son, and make it known to all, that lukewarmness or negligence in saying the Hail Mary, or a distaste for it, is a probable and proximate sign of eternal damnation, for by this prayer the whole world was restored."
These are terrible words but at the same time they are consoling. We should find it hard to believe them, were we not assured of their truth by Blessed Alan and by St. Dominic before him, and by so many great men since his time. The experience of many centuries is there to prove it, for it has always been common knowledge that those who bear the sign of reprobation, as all formal heretics, evil-doers, the proud and the worldly, hate and spurn the Hail Mary and the Rosary. True, heretics learn to say the Our Father but they will not countenance the Hail Mary and the Rosary and they would rather carry a snake around with them than a rosary. And there are even Catholics who, sharing the proud tendencies of their father Lucifer, despise the Hail Mary or look upon it with indifference. The Rosary, they say, is a devotion suitable only for ignorant and illiterate people.

On the other hand, we know from experience that those who show positive signs of being among the elect, appreciate and love the Hail Mary and are always glad to say it. The closer they are to God, the more they love this prayer, as our Blessed Lady went on to tell Blessed Alan.

My dear American daughter-in-law had some distressing moments for thanksgiving, someone crashed into her car.
Far from her mother an ocean away, it must be a sad day for her. She still found something to express gratitude for, ‘at least no one was hurt in the accident.
I couldn’t find a Thanksgiving card so I made her a big one, with images that are significant to American history and icons.
Nevertheless her ex-patriot Thanksgiving is postponed for a day or two, but I’m very thankful that although her car has a date with repairers, she herself, although shocked, is unhurt.

God bless Americans, those able to share Thanksgiving with their families, but also those who are far from their families, and those who are alone.

Prayers for your daughter and giving thanks no one was hurt.
Accidents are scary!
I’m in the “Alone” group this year. Fortunately Jesus and his family in Heaven are always with me so I am never really alone.

Dear Trishie,

Your dear American daughter-in-law will be remembered especially this evening as my husband and I pray the Rosary together.

The weather especially in some parts of the USA this Thanksgiving is dangerous. There are some severe snow and wind storms and some drivers, tired, anxious and impatient can cause terrible accidents. I thank God with you that your daughter and others involved were unhurt. Surely she’ll appreciate your card.

Thank you for praying for Americans, for our country at present is going through some serious trials, yet by Faith we know God permints trials in order that our faith may grow. By His Grace may we learn from the example of the Humble, Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph to live always in the Light of Christ, which darkness cannot overcome.

May this Advent help us all everywhere to pray in preparation for His Final Coming! Thanks for sharing with us on this National Thanksgiving in the USA. Prayers given and received are always such great gifts from God! 🙂

And we know by Faith, Jesus is our Way, our Truth and our Life! (also from Jn 14: 1-6). Jesus with the Father sent the Holy Spirit to the Church at Pentecost to bring us into all Truth. We are never alone as you said for we have the indwelling Trinity and we also have Mary our Mother with all God’s children who are members of His Body. We are members of one another: God’s Family in Heaven, in Purgatory and on Earth.

May we all experience a new “closeness” to one another this Advent as we prepare for His Coming: remembering His first coming so humbly, His coming in the present, at Eucharist and at mysterious times of Grace, and when He comes in Glory at the end.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience of being alone, yet knowing you are not alone – that is a grace so many need to hear and believe! 🙂

Thanks for your “faithful heart” which tells us you read and appreciated the words God gave to St. Louis de Montfort in his treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin” . How truly St. Louis de Montfort’s writing can encourage us, as we listen to, and ponder in our hearts, these beautiful words:

I had to work on Thanksgiving day and plan on having “Thanksgiving” tomorrow after I get off work. But don’t know if that will happen because of a family friend being at the hospital for some complications from surgery i think. So don’t really know if my family will be able to have Thanksgiving this year.
 
I hope you were able to have company for your Thanksgiving.
