aaaaahhhhh! Where do people get this stuff?

Can some of you people PLEASE explain to me why there’s all this “The next pope’s gonna be the anti-christ” nonsense?

Okay, I know lots of people are simply echoing the **** they’ve heard (and sometimes from the Protestant pulpit! :eek: But I was wondering if these people try to use any kind of scripture to back up their accusations??? Did they just make it up? Is it just more unsubstantiated, fun-filled anti-catholic stuff? Or do these people really believe they have scriptural basis?
 
Well, here is one example of an anti-Christ theory provided by some King James Bible Onlyists. Warning: This message board is extremely anti-Catholic and I wouldn’t trust too much of the info (It’s always infused with Catholic hatred.) Note they use a definition of “anti” from the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary. It really holds little weight. The whole debate is quite interesting really, and it gives new perpective to some radical KJV thinkers.

However, I thank you for that…it did give me insight on how some people come to think the Pope is the antichrist.
 
I agree, and I can honestly say that that whole board is 95% rabidly anti-catholic. May of those Catholis posting there are members of the board I administrate on ezboard…

I can also add that when the Catholics cease to post there, they ended up turning on their own…so it doesn’t end with us!

The Antichrist is out there people he’s just not this Pope the next Pope or any Pope for that matter when will peopel learn we won’t know who he is until it’s his time to come out and take over the world and persecute the church.
 
Oh and another thing I forgot to ask previously…I heard that the symbol on the pope’s hat is supposed to have some sort of evil significance. To tell the truth, I have no idea what symbol is even on his hat. Anyone care to shed some light on that?
 
I think the main reason these Protestants make this fuss about the Pope is because he is loved so much by Catholics and non-Catholics alike. None of us “worship” him, but he is very important in the faith.

Misinformed “anti”-Catholics claim that the words “Vicarius Filii Dei” is inscribed on the Pope’s miter (hat). This means “Vicar of the Son of God”. They claim that if you apply roman numerals to each letter of that inscription, the total comes to 666.

HOWEVER, those words are not inscribed on the Pope’s miter.

The correct inscription is “Vicarius Christi” or Vicar of Christ which only adds up to 214.

They have to tell you it says “…Son of God” so the math adds up correctly.

Even though I’m not Catholic, I find things like that incredibly stupid. I’ve explored a variety of religions, and I almost decided to join the Catholic Church (If you want to know why I didn’t…well, find out sometime), but I find that when people aren’t accepting of others…very very bad things happen…There’s always going to be someone trying to force their views on others, while trying to tear others down…
 
I know of one thing that has made the next-Pope-will-be-antichrist idea more popular are the Left Behind books. In them, the current Pope is taken away from earth in the “Rapture” along with all the other “true Christians” (but only because he admitted that Martin Luther was right all along:rolleyes:), and the man who replaces him works for the Antichrist. I think he is supposed to represent the Whore of Babylon…another popular label for the Pope by some Protestants.:rotfl:
 
oh my gosh…I’m reading those books right now. yeah! the former pope was taken away…with the implications it was because he was teaching more “protestant” things…and leaving behind (I think all members) in the College of Cardinals. hrm…
 
Tim Lahaye provides the “doctrine” for those books and is a rabid Anti-Catholic I don’t like the man one bit I used to buy into all that stuff about the “rapture” and the Whore of Babylon being the Catholic Church (Whatever :rolleyes: ) but not anymore I urge you to takes those books with a huge grain of salt.
 
I have read the first ten books of the left behind series or I should say listened to the books on tape. I thought they made an interesting story if you remember that they are fiction. I did not see the anti-catholic slant until later in the series.

And…you won’t believe this…I was on the phone with an old friend just today, and we somehow got on the subject of Mel Gibson and the Passion movie and then we got on the subject of Catholicism and I swear, she goes “You know, I think the next pope will be the antichrist.”

It took great, great, great restraint to refrain from saying ALL I wanted to say to this. How annoying.
