I feel like my perception of Jesus is warped. I know the caricature of him as saccharine and “nice” is wrong, but instead I find myself avoiding Him because I never feel like I’m worthy and that the only way I would be worthy was if I was an ascetic or monk. I am thoroughly grateful for the Virgin Mary, who draws me to Him and gives me Grace, but what seems strange is the idea that Mary is more compassionate and sensitive than Christ is, and that can’t be right. I just know that I’m not “sold out” or detached from the world in the way He commands and it makes me worry that He will reject me.

Psalm 27

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

Hail Mary
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death, Amen

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our God, I barely realise my blindness, deafness, and ignorance before You. I suspect the truths of Your love as distant music, though I yearn to know and love You. I desire to be pure, zealous and faithful after example of Jesus and Mary, so that through me, You may channel love and blessing to many others.

If I really knew You, God, if I knew Your love, goodness and power, Your ways and thoughts beyond all earthly kind, then what would I ask, seek, and offer to You and to others’ souls for Your sake! How would I live and serve, if I knew, and truly loved! What would I ask of You, of the Mother, of each Saint and Angel, in daring trust? These I ask anyway, although I am sinful, ignorant, and lukewarm!

My heart reaches out in quiet faith to the Father who is infinite Creator so great that He intimately cherishes each of billions of lowly creatures throughout the ages.

My heart reaches out to follow the Son whom He surrendered to creature-hood and to death-that-rose, drawing each person into relationship with God.

My heart reaches out to touch the Spirit, who transforms all things.

My self-interest undermines my spiritual vitality and efficacious service. I am an erratic, ordinary person, yet in Your intention, I am a glorious reflection of Your love.

No prayer and goodwill can free me from sinfulness, but with faith in Your immense mercy, I leap over this deadly barrier. For even as I strive or fail, like Saint Therese, I trustfully ask You to judge me neither by sin nor by merit, but only by Your love! Free me from Your judgement even in my flaws that may separate us or impede the flood of Your goodness through my life to others.

Like Saint Therese, I take to myself no merit to clothe my pride or to secure glory in heaven or on earth—so that You may apply these to other souls in need.

Holy God, if by no judgement of my merit or sin do You love and act through me—then Your wisdom, goodness and life can engulf and flow from me to others. This music—of love and holiness, of You within us—may be pitched to perfection, beyond earthly perception. Yet please let each moment (each atom, all thought, word, and act, each frailty and each grace) of my life be transformed in Your love. Let it be formed into exquisite notes of Your eternal symphony to delight and praise You far beyond my understanding.

With faith, I offer You my daily duty and routine, with its joy, prayer, hope, and struggle. Let Your Spirit pray and fulfil in me all that I would become, seek, ask, and do, if Your love and truth were known to me. This, God is the lifelong prayer of this sinful, contrite, hopeful creature.

“Walk with simplicity in the way of the Lord and do not torment your spirit. Learn to hate your faults but to hate them calmly.” (Saint Padre Pio) “Heaven is filled with converted sinners of all kinds, and there is room for more” (St. Joseph Cafaso)

Love through me

Merciful God, unless You love through me, I cannot love You above all, or cherish other persons, as Jesus loves me. Therefore I ask You to know, love and serve through me, for my attempts may be tainted with selfish responses or kindly mistakes.

Others’ logic and reality before You is mystery to me, for I have only my own consciousness. I know something of my sinfulness, yet what appears to be ‘sin’ in others may instead be a differing virtue, or a product of innocence or ignorance that only appears to be sin or error. Grant that I never judge others out of my own prejudices.

I ask You Who-Are-Love to be my love and service of others, welcoming everyone as Your beloved. I want to celebrate Your love, beauty and inspiration in others, even if it is obscure. Let Your Spirit fill my heart, mouth and prayer with gifts of Your love and truth for others. Let me be endowment of Your own self, Your sacrament, and our gentle Mother present to them. I ask this despite my evident failures in loving.

I believe that You will free me wholly into Your love, wisdom, and compassion. I wait humbly in my daily efforts, knowing that in Your mercy You will grant my prayer to love Yourself in me with all strength and being, and to love others through me with Jesus’ love.

My human best

Holy God, to the best of my human ability and knowledge at this moment, I give You everything I am and possess.

I stand before You foolish and unworthy yet with the best that I know to give—the offering of my being with its endowments and achievements, my warmest affection, clearest understanding, best contrition and the greatest honour that I can ‘achieve’ in this little instant of trust.

Behold me compassionately in the tiny human perfection of this moment, and grant me unity in the eternal immensity of perfection, which is You, our God. Thank You that You accept such meagre gift of life and effort in exchange for blessings and eternal gifts for others’ souls.

Dear God, there are many beautiful, generous, wise and holy people in this world and throughout time.
These holy individuals are floodgates of abundant blessing to others and of great joy to You.

But I…I have many flaws and often make mistakes. I am inconsistent in charity, faith, wisdom and commitment. Forgive me, God.
Yet even if I am less wise and less good than many others are, I have merely this consciousness, this body, this life that I can give You.
There is no other self over whom I have personal right of decision and offering.
Please take all. Never let me go. Make me increasingly Your own.

Let me live and accomplish, all that You dreamed, of me, and through me to others, from loving eternity.
Only by Your miracles of grace can I give this ‘me’ totally, and in the way that You wish for Your delight and for others’ benefit.
Please make it so, according to Your hope.
I consecrate my entire life to You, imploring that through with Your Holy Spirit, I can love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.

Seeking union with God

Merciful God, please do not allow us to interpret our desire for You as zeal for any ideal, activity, devotion, or person. Do not allow our passion for God to lead us to hidden selfishness. Inspire us with wisdom and discipline to seek You as we authentically serve each other.

I cannot make myself worthy of You. I come with my fragments of prayer, goodwill and kind acts, while others perhaps arise with extraordinary gifts to offer You, but we all have only trust in Your merciful Love, as means to union with You. Therefore, I pray, “Draw us. We will run” to You.

In our human poverty before You, we ask everything of Your mercy, for we are Your children and You are rich beyond imagination. If You require sacrifice, we offer the Sacrifice of Your Son, together with the sacrifices and goodness of countless saints though all ages. If You require selfless Love, fill our beings, ‘pressed down and running over’ with Your own Love. God our only God, unite us in Your Love.

Praise God

Praise to You our God, for Your love, opportunities, and blessings in our lives. We have tried to respond—yet perhaps not well enough. If we have curtailed Your plans, please heal our doubts and achieve Your purpose despite our flaws. Forgive our hurt when You seem not to listen or to respond. Accept our trust that You will overcome our barriers and fulfil Your dreams in our lives.

Amid Your blessings, there have been sufferings, sadness, and disappointments. Yet You intend all these graces and difficulties to break open our hearts to You. In every situation, fill us with peace, joy, gratitude, and love for You above all and others, as You desire.

We praise You for the hope, faith, love and gratitude that You rouse in us during our lives. Thank You for those times when we appreciate Your love and gifts! Thank You for the delight and adoration that You inspire in us! Thank You for the times Your Spirit blesses others through us.

Praise God, our souls, within our fundamental choice! Praise God in our sleeping, in our waking, in our awareness, in our distractions, in our laughter, in our sorrows, in our actions, in our stillness, in our dying, in our rising.

“Have you not sometimes loved the Lord? Do you not love God now? Do you not long to love God forever? Therefore, do not fear! Even conceded that you had committed all the sins of this world, Jesus repeats to you: Many sins are forgiven you because you have loved much!” (Saint P. Pio)

Christ is kind and loving and always looking to forgive …

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. x10

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
