So…
Long story short, a few years ago my uncle moved in with my family and I after being diagnosed with diabetes and losing his job, essentially retiring. He was in that Tony Alamo cult for a long time until it got shut down by the IRS and became “a back-slidden[spelling?] Chrisitan.” After suffering a heart attack he “turned back to God-” which is to say back to his previous beliefs. Long story short, he’s vehemently anti-Catholic and has very little respect for anyone in the family, especially me and my mother. Now, my mother’s and uncle’s family have had some problems,(I’ll let you determine what kind after you google said cult). Occasionally, when my uncle comes up to get the car keys, my mother tries to be amicable, asks about his “pastor,” trying to get him to wake up about who that man is. This causes discussions. These discussions, based on their backgrounds get a tad heated. Today, I got involved after my mother asked me to come up so she could calm down, and then my uncle come up. It was insane. He’s totally brainwashed. I try to correct his usage of some terms in his anti-catholic tirades and he just says “that’s not what I believe,” “your just a novice,” “you low level catholics don’t know the truth about what the pope is doing,” etc. Its just demoralizing and just… its crazy.
The worst of it is the effect on my mother. She had always wanted things to be good between them, and things just seem to be getting worse. And she is not entirely solid in the faith, and his attacks keep eroding at what’s there.
Just that one conversation is wracking my brain with “whaaaa…?” Please pray for us, and offer any advice you might have, thanks.

Obviously correcting him and arguing with him don’t work, so you both might was well stop. But since he’s living in your home, your parents should make it clear that they won’t tolerate anti-Catholic speech, either. Their home, their rules.

I remember seeing Tony Alamo on tv some years back. I thought he was more of a motivational speaker. I didn’t know he had been shut down. I didn’t care for him at all.

Remember that you will only convert this man by striving to live a holy life yourself. As for his remarks while living in your home, I agree with the previous poster: your house, your rules.
