I’m curious to hear others’ opinions before I try to put a stake in my own here.

I hardly watch TV, but I do let the kids watch.

They have watched a show called “That’s so Raven” where a girl named “Raven” gets visions into future scenes.

She doesn’t seem to interpret the context very well, which provides basis for most of the humor.

Is this an evil TV show, or is it just plain fun? I thought it was silly but not evil, but there is that part about predicting the future…

That brings up another thing that was buggin me today: what is the difference between a fotune teller and a prophet? If Raven isn’t one of those, then what is she and does that make her evil?

I’ll tell you what I wish I could see in the future. Me with large wads of money, paying the very last one of my debts. 🙂

Raven evil? Not in my opinion. It is a good family show few and far between. My dh and I both enjoy it with our 11 year old ds. Raven sees future events, usually silly stuff, why would that be evil? You know there are some real evils in this world, I think it is a far stretch if someone is looking for evil in Thats so Raven.

I had no problem letting my daughter watch That’s so Raven. I used to enjoy it myself, and watched it with her. Soon enough there won’t be anything left for our children to watch, for the sexuality, and strange things that they try to imbibe our kids with. The shows I’ve seen of “Raven” have been good clean fun.

I am only trying to find out where others stand on this. I myself did not find anything threatening in it, but with the “future telling” I wasn’t sure because some people seem to steer so clear of anything that points into the future I wondered what I’d be able to hear here.

To me, whether such fortune-telling or premonitions or whatever are indeed interesting fodder for stories, and who am I to know whether these things happen or not?

Actually now that I think about it, it’s probably a Good Thing that just because she gets a vision here and there she is far from omniscient – as she proves by her incomplete “interpretations” thereof.

Thank you both for responding as quickly as you did. I’ll see if anyone else rings in. 🙂

I think the show is painful to watch but not evil. The main character does not seek out her visions or practice the occult. She merely gets involuntary flashes of the future. I’m not sure that this is a trait condemned by the Church. Anyone out there know?

Sounds like a similar concept to “Early Edition” where the guy gets tomorrow’s newspaper. I agree with Kristina P. for what it’s worth… I would be more concerned about other aspects of the show, such as modesty issues, respect for parents/teachers, honesty, etc. (Not saying that the show has these issues, because I have never seen the show, but they are things to watch out for in any show).

Yeah, the show is lame, but that very lameness probably helps us resist the imagery that can be brought along with the parts of the show that are “technically” problematic.

I also agree that focusing on good manners is critical because it helps people get along without misunderstandings.

Why is it every time something has magic but is not Christian-endorsed comes out the anti-magic crowd has to denounce it? :banghead: I’d hate to see anyone grow up without at least some exposure to fantasy.

 What? Has someone thus far in this thread said it is evil because of magic? Can we see a quote, please?

:whacky: This is what I think of the show. Bonkers.

Yeah.

Hard to know what to make of it…

Well, I think I shall dismiss the whole matter as irrelevant, to the degree I am able to muster. 😛

I was just saying in general, CatholicSam, sorry.

This show is so harmless I was shocked to see it being questioned as evil…much too much over scrupulosity. 😉

Hey, that really makes it simpler.

I’m with you. Time for some of us to lighten up, including me it seems. 🙂

If that’s what scrupulosity is, then I’m not sure it’s something I want to know much more about. :nope:
