I recently ordered and received (from Catholic Book Publishing Company) the “Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary,”
published in 1986.
It’s a mixed bag, to be sure.
I LOVE the prayers and psalms and scripture readings and quotes from the Fathers of the Church.
but many of the readings, prayers, etc, contained in the little
book are the ICEL translations, and frankly, they are AWFUL.
Beyond BAD. Since I know most of the original versions of these prayers, like the Hail Holy Queen, Litany of Loreto, etc, etc, etc, I say them the way I’m always used to saying them rather than use the horrid ICEL versions in this edition of the LITTLE OFFICE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY.
Does anybody know if there is an EARLIER edition of this
book on the market? I simply cannot STAND the ICEL translations. I can’t believe such poor-quality work is actually put out for the public by educated scholars!!!
