By doing so, the documentary shot itself in the foot. After all, the Catholic Church doesn’t consider the Gospel of Thomas to be canonical.

How? Neither link really gives much context outside of the fact that this quote opened the film. Unless some core part of their argument hinged on the quote, though, I’m not sure it discredits the film.
