RUMBLINGS IN THE ANGLICAN CHURCH seem, these days, to be never-ending. And it’s interesting to note that the presence of our own Archbishop of the West Indies, the Most Reverend Drexel Gomez, has not gone unnoticed.

On the opening day of the General Synod in London two Wednesdays ago, Rev. Gomez was, according to the London Times, one of 14 evangelical archbishops who condemned the Church of England as evil and singled out the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, for personal attack.

The report states that the 14, led by Nigerian archbishop, Dr Peter Akinola, presented a letter to Dr Williams, criticising his leadership and urging him to rethink his personal, liberal views on homosexuality.

They take Dr Williams to task for failing to act against the ‘unrepented sexual immorality’ that they say is responsible for the Church’s divisions."

The 14 archbishops argue that the Church of England should have sought an exemption from the Civil Partnerships Act, which comes into effect next month, permitting gay partnerships – including clergy partnerships – to be registered legally…
