Did the Cappadocian fathers understand the trinity better than the apostles?

OR

The apostles understood all that needed to be revealed about the trinity but could not articulate them ?

Because the Trinity is a mystery even though the Apostles knew that God the Father and God the Son and the Holy Spirit although 3 separate persons yet there is 1 GOD. Jesus claims to be GOD unequivocally and after the resurrection when Thomas sees Him and exclaims “My Lord and my GOD” Jesus did not rebuke him. Also the Holy Spirit that is sent from the Father and the Son is also GOD. However how can you express this mystery?
It took the Church quite some time to mull how to best express this notion spurred by wave after wave of heresies that compromised what the Apostles and successors had believed and taught from the beginning.
This specific attribute of GOD is a “Revealed Truth”, no theologian could ever come up with this. And none of the ancient “gods” ever show this either. There are other religions with “trinities” but they are NOT what the Christian GOD claims to be and has revealed in person to us.

Peace!
