Does anyone know of a website listing Catholic prayers and their origins?

In my junior high religious ed class we are learning and studying two prayers every week, and this week it is the Apostles’ Creed. I know this is the oldest of the Creeds, supposedly dating back to the Apostles themselves, where each of the 12 added something to the creed.

Does anyone have additional information? Any help is greatly appreciated!

God bless.

GO to www.newadvent.com. They have an online Catholic Encyclopedia. You may have to get a cup of coffee to stay awake when you read it, but it is full of good info.

The info about the creed coming right from the Apsotles is the same info I got when reading The Divine Life of the the Most Holy Virgin by Ven. Mary of Agreda. Hope this helps.

I’m pretty sure the Nicean Creed came first and the Apostle’s Creed is a variation.

Thank you all so much – what great information! the newadvent could keep me reading for weeks!

God bless!
