In the future I’m going to show my friend the importance of Mary by the comparison to the ark of the covenant. Can someone give me a good explanation on exactly what the ark was and also the bible verse where the man was struck dead for touching it. Thanks for the help.

I do not have the Biblical references you asked for, but there is a good list of comparisons of OT and NT comparing the Ark and Mary. It does not have where they are but with a little work, you could find them. (do you or your friends have a concordance?)

You can find it in Apologetics under “Why We Need Mary” it has 5 stars in it. I found it on the second page of the Apologetics section. I printed it out to have for future reference!

An excellent resource is Hail Holy Queen, by Scott Hahn. It goes into much of the biblical typology related to Mary, including that of the Ark.

The scripture reference you are looking for is 2 Samuel 6:7.

In it were the gold jar containing the manna, the staff of Aaron that had sprouted, and the tablets of the covenant. As the ark contained manna, the Bread from heaven; Mary contained Jesus the true bread from heaven John 6:32-33]. As the ark contained the staff of Aaron, the sign of the High Priest; Mary contained Jesus the new High Priest. As the ark contained the tablets carrying the word of God; Mary contained Jesus the Word of God.
 
I am a little scattered in the head to add any theological insights, but i can add something of directly related interest.

You should look into the Ethiopian Church. They have a very strong connexion between the Blessed Mother and the Ark of the Covenant and Noe’s Ark. Their temples contain representations of both. Their Tabernacles are in the shape of a boat, according to the description in Genesis. Also, they have replicas of the Talbot, the Ark of the Covenant that are used in worship. Both of these have images of teh Mother of God painted on the top or sides, showing the connexion between her, and the bearer of the Law, the bearer of the Covenant, and the Ark of Salvation.
