I’ve recently been studying Deuteronomy with a Bible study group, and it has come up that at various times, as Moses is speaking, it’s hard to tell if it’s Moses or God - as if they speak with one voice, e.g. if you read Chapter 11, Moses is exhorting the Israelites to remember what the Lord has done, and to follow the commandments, but then in verses 13-15, it’s more like God talking - “I will give the seasonal rain to your land…I will bring forth grass…”. Elsewhere it is made clear that Moses speaks with authority from God, and to disobey Moses is to disobey God.
I found this all very interesting, and I wonder if anyone here has any thoughts on this. I also wondered if this could be an Old Testament antecedent for the sort of authority that Christ gives to the apostles, or the authority that resides with the Church today. Any thoughts?
