The Beast: "Here is meaning for him with wisdom"
taken from Apocalypse 17.
Wisdom is the capacity to discern what is important from what is not.
Many of the Fathers of Catholicism have prophesied that in the latter days, men shall come along who give “astounding interpretations” to the apocalypse.
No doubt, the imagery of the apocalypse is mystical and profound.
The verse of the beast goes on:
9 And here is the understanding that hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman sitteth, and they are seven kings: 10 Five are fallen, one is, and the other is not yet come: and when he is come, he must remain a short time. 11 And the beast which was, and is not: the same also is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into destruction.
Clearly, a profound meaning to the beast is mystical, symbolic. What would be the broadest meaning of the beast except the sinful nature of man himself.
Let us consider the Diabolical trinity of Apocalypse 13. The Heavenly Father begets an Image of Himself in the Eternal Son. The Immeasurable Love and Life spoken between the Father and Son then becomes a Third Divine Person, the Holy Trinity.
Now, look at the parallel: The dragon, or father of lies, begets an image of himself in humanity, the children of the evil one. These are the men and societies that turn away from God and toward merely this world. That do not seek to know God and love Him, but see themselves as arbiters of the truth and who do as they please, irregardless of what is claimed about religion and morals. It is they who assert their complete independence from God, free of the consequences, and able to bring fulfillment merely from this world.
And what is the lie spoken, the second beast, that binds them together, the father and His evil children of history? Is it not symbolized in the second beast, the false prophet? For what is the false prophet except the false word spoken from the beginning by that evil spirit unto man. And what is that false word.
Herein is really wisdom. In the end, if we are made by God to know Him, love, and serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him in the next (as the Catholic Catechism teaches), then the lies of the dragon are the antithesis:
I. Your end is NOT to know, love, and serve God. You needn’t have any such concern. And nor shall there be any consequences to your rejection of God, either in THIS life or any presumed NEXT life.
II. And therefore, your final end is not to be with God forever in heaven (to MARRY God), but to content with the THIS world, to choose your partner of infatuation as not the CreatOR but the CreaTION–to spiritually fornicate with this world and all it can give you. For in the end, you will not find the fulfillment of your desires in the possession of God as your spouse forever. Rather, you shall fulfill yourself fully in taking your partner in the world. Come, therefore, fornicate with the creation rather than marry your Creator!
Do not these lies summarize the dragon’s “word” in Genesis, in the garden?
And what is the first lie except the near total mockery of Baptism, scoffing at the need of faith and repentance, the base conditions necessary to enter into a relationship of friendship with God?
And what is the second lie except the twisting of all that Holy Marriage implies: that we are not called to ultimately marry God, but rather to join ourselves as whores with this world.
And, when we consider that the Lamb instituted seven sacraments, the greatest of His powers to redeem, the seven horns, so then the second beast takes two of the Lamb’s horns, Baptism and Marriage, the only two sacraments that good heretics can have, and twists them into the ultimate heresy.
And finally, to return to the first beast, what is the wisdom that sees meaning in the seven kings of the beast? Are they not the greater ages of the fallen nature in salvation history, where man arises in rebellion again and again against the Holy One, in order to do their will rather than the One that made them? That is, in the various greater times since Adam and Eve walked with God that man, in various places, has allowed the dragon to incarnate his false word in them?
Five have fallen, the five greater darknesses that needed to come before the Christ:
i. The Fall and Noah’s Day
ii. Tower of Babel
iii. Egypt
iv. Pre-Exile Jewish Unfaithfulness
v. OT Antichrist Antiochus in Maccabbees
And the darknesses in the time of the New:
vi. Pagan Rome persecutes
vii. The Minor Apostasy
viii. The Great Apostasy and NT Antichrist
And at each step of the way, God wounded the applicable head of the beast through his greater Redemptive actions (see Apocalypse 13:3):
The Flood slew the wickedness of Noah’s day
The Confounding of Languages and calling of Abraham slew the Tower of Babel
The Exodus and OT Israel slew Egypt
The Exile, Jewish Repentance and restoration to the Holy Land slew the sin of the Jews prior to the exile
And Christ slew the OT Antichrist Antiochus and all ages of sin, past, present and future figuratively by His First Coming.
Constantine and Catholic Christendom slew Pagan Rome
And this modern age of apostasy shall be slain by God through the Minor Chastisement, which shall be the Gentiles being exiled into the consequences of their sins and errors, which shall cause them to return to God and to the Catholic Church, giving the world a final ending age of peace before the final time of darkness, the eighth.
And in that eighth time, the human race as a near whole shall turn away from God a final time, never to be practically cured, the Great Apostasy, at which time Christ shall come again to slay all wickedness eternally and usher in the Joy that shall never end, the New Creation and General Resurrection.
Then, shall the dragon, beast, and false prophet, be cast into the lake of fire, never to arise again.
