Eleanor Rigby.

I’m Happy Just To Dance With You.

Here, There, and Everywhere

Yellow Submarine–I LOVE that movie and wish that someone would take it to Broadway as a live musical (like they did with Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King, etc.–it often works really well to take animated features to Broadway).

Does anyone remember that Saturday morning cartoon of the Beatles that was on in the 1960s? It was so awesome. I was just a child when it was on, but I loved listening to the songs, and I thought the Beatles were funny.

Of course I watched it!

There are so many Beatles songs that I am having trouble even thinking about what my favorites are. I definitely like “Here Comes the Sun”.

I guess what my favorite songs are at any given time depends on my current mood. The Beatles pretty much had songs to fit any mood.

I remember it. :harp:

Just found on Youtube The Vitamin String Quartet who do covers of the Beatles and a lot of other groups. Here is their rendition of Eleanor Rigby, a favorite I forgot to mention.

Hello to all you old Rockers (as opposed to Mods) who appreciate the songs I grew up with! I too had a large collection of Beatles LPs that I had to sell at a low point in my life. The only one I’ve replaced is Rubber Soul. I recently heard it described as the album where the Beatles went from black & white to color! So true. Oh, I also have ‘Let It Be…Naked’ - the original tracks before studio enhancement. Just a great band.

I wasn’t a big Beatles fan when I was little (and they were together) but my wife was. And now that my 18 year old daughter is the “Beatles Authority” in the family (she’s been a fan since she was 9) I’ve grown to love their music. I was corrected early on that it was “goo goo g’joob”. :o

LOL

I’ve been a Beatles fan since I was a little girl. My parents loved the music, so it was frequently playing in my house growing up. Now, I’m 24 with a family of my own and I love their music still! I didn’t get into some of their “less well known” stuff until after playing Beatles Rock Band. (My husband bought me the entire Beatles catalogue in that boxed set for Christmas.) Anyways, these are some of my favorites:

Paperback Writer
Boys
Every Little Thing
I Need You
Yes It Is
Strawberry Fields Forever
A Day In The Life
All Together Now (my kids go crazy for this one)
Twist And Shout

Ah, the Beatles. I don’t care that I’m 17. One of the best bands of all time.

Favorites you ask?

I am the Walrus
Helter Skelter
With a Little Help from my Friends
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club

👍

Norweigan Wood, Michelle, P.S. I Love You, and If I Fell. Brings back memories. The diversity and range of their work was so great.

I’m not a huge Beatles fan, but I do have some favorites:

Eleanor Rigby
She’s Leaving Home
Blackbird (but really love the CSNY cover better)
Norweigan Wood
Carry that Weight
Fixing a Hole
If I Fell
Octopus’s Garden (LOVE this song, I must admit!!)
Penny Lane

I guess that is quite a list - but I still don’t consider myself a huge fan.

I actually had to look up a list of songs to remember what I do like: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Beatles_songs

I just love it when the younger generation gets into “our” music.
I’m 17 and the Beatles are my favorite band. I have many favorites:
Let it Be
Hey Jude
Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Here Comes the Sun
Please Please Me
In My Life
Obla-Dee Obla-Da
A Day in the Life
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Then some of my Beatles solo faves:
Isn’t it a Pity
Any Road
All Things Must Pass
Beware of Darkness
Material World
Behind That Locked Door
Imagine
Photograph
And anything else by George Harrison

RIP George and John

What about Lady Madonna? Don’t leave Ringo out in the cold!

I don’t think you’ll find many “Octupus’ Garden” in people’s faves list. 😃

My daughters, 5 and 3, go crazy for “Hello, Goodbye”. It depends on my mood, but I’m currently a big fan of “Here Comes the Sun”, “Life Goes On” and “Dear Prudence”.

Don’t Let Me Down, is another you do not find on many favorite lists. Although it is one of mine. It may be because it brings me back to a time in my life (although I am not sure when) when it had meaning. Maybe and old crush :o or something, not really sure. But the song tugs at the heart strings for some reason.

Okay, so I wasn’t a fan growing up, but having a hubby who plays in a professional Beatles tribute band, they have grown on me. I love John singing “To know her is to love her”, his voice sounds so smooth considering that his voice was very rough in all his other early performances. Another one I love is “You know my name, look up my number”, I can’t get enough of that comical performance. The songs they performed for Decca were very good, imho (Decca was crazy to not take them on). I do love “P.S. I love you” because my hubby always dedicates that to me on stage (he sounds so much like Paul when he sings that). “For the Benefit of Mr. Kite” and “A Day in the Life” round out my tops.

And, to put a plug in, if anyone is ever looking to hire a Beatles tribute band for a private function (whether for a personal event, corporate event, or church event) message me. Why not support a group who’s “Paul” is in diaconate formation (and frankly, is the best Paul imitator in the world, and I’m not the only one to have said that)? 😃 😉

I have a question in regards to the song Norwegian Wood. It is about John having an affair.

Knowing this, would it still be okay to listen to the song? How moral is it to listen to such a song that obviously is about a very immoral thing? I think the song sounds beautiful, but lyrical content…not so.

The same goes for movies like Cinema Paradiso where the main character and the girl he was so much in love with during his younger years (she married later and he never did) and finally meet up again much older and…well, they truly have a deep love for one another (as well as learning the truth about specific events that shaped the rest of their lives) and follow their passions for the one night.

I just saw Paul last night in Pittsburgh…the third best show I’ve ever seen (after Bruce and U2). Awesome, awesome night.

A Day in the Life is something I have been listening to frequently. And Across the Universe. I think Good Night is so beautiful, too.

Ever notice though how their troubles seemed to have escalated right after John Lennon made his
infamous remark that they were more famous than Jesus Christ. Was that Divine Providence?
No, I think it had more to do with John’s growing disinterest in the group:) Plus, they continued their best work after that remark, including Sgt Pepper, the White Album, and Abbey Road.

I actually don’t take Lennon’s statement as an insult to my faith. If you watch The Beatles Anthology, John states that he wasn’t saying that the Beatles were more important, or better, than Jesus. Paul said in that same documentary that John meant it as a factual problem: at that time the Beatles had a bigger influence on the youth than Jesus. Paul, who is a somewhat spiritual man, said that John wanted people in the Church to do better work getting Christ’s message out.

A great little article on John, The Beatles, and Christianity: findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1141/is_24_44/ai_n28007597/

I just love it when the younger generation gets into “our” music. I had every album that was sold in the US, sold them when we had some medical bills, for quite a tidy sum incidentally since it was a complete set, wonder what it would be worth today, oh well, I have the songs I care most about on my computer.
The Beatles are my 14 year old daughter’s absolute favorite band. I just bought her a Beatles messenger bag/back pack for school in the fall. She has a Beatles shirt for almost every day of the week. Yup, she’s a bit obsessed. 😃 She knows (and loves) songs I’ve never even heard of by them. And she was totally bummed we couldn’t go to the Ringo Starr concert in Indiana this summer. Ringo is her favorite Beatle. She has a Ringo Starr cd as well (silly me, I didn’t even know he had his own music.) She was completely geeked when a coworker of mine gave her an original Paul McCartney Wings vinyl record. She searches thrift stores for anything Beatles on vinyl. She’s my “old school” girl. She always tells me “your guys” (meaning hubby & I) music is way better than “hers”. (Although the Beatles wasn’t really my generation either.)

I do really like “Yesterday” and “When I’m 64.” My daughter says her all time favorite is “Hey Jude” but after that she can’t narrow it down because “it depends on her mood.”
