I tried doing research on what charities are the most cost-efficient, least corrupt and most aligned with Catholic morality, but I’ve been very overwhelmed by the amount of information to dig through.

To people who are experts on charities: could you tell me what the best, or at least one of the best, organizations are for the following issues?
  • World hunger, agricultural research
  • Environmental protection
  • Fighting political corruption and authoritarianism
  • Medical research
  • Abortion
Thank you.

For the third, I would say the Open Society Institute .

I do not know where MSF would go in.

I use EHP in East Palo Alto.
They take used items, clothing, household, furniture, etc.
and give them to families at no charge. We always give
to EHP instead of having a garage sale. We know poeple will
receive the items for free and we get the tax deduction.

They are a kind group of people to. They hire people w/ diabilities and do their best to give excellent service to the donors and their clients.

While it will not answer your question about how aligned with Catholicism a particular charity is, CharityNavigator.org provides information about the financial status of a great number of charities. It gives a pretty good idea of which charities have solid financial status, shows how much of the budget is spent on administrative/overhead costs and how much is actually “used for good.” I use this information as sort of a springboard into my research for who I will give my money to. Best wishes!

Catholic Relief Services has an outstanding record in dealing with world hunger, helping the impoverished to support themselves, (including agriculture), disaster relief and helping refugees. Their cost effectiveness is outstanding. Go to CRS.org.

I started supporting them before my revert to the church.
