Mel’s thread asking about a parish he’s considering moving near made me remember a topic I’ve been meaning to ask about.

Where are the best places for Eastern or Oriental Catholics to live in North America? Where are those parishes that are shining examples of their Church and its tradition?

As far as Chaldean Catholicism, in my opinion, the best place in North America would have to be the Western States eparchy based in San Diego county.

His Grace Mar Sarhad Yawsip, Fr. Felix, and Fr. Andy, have started the reformed liturgy there. Eventually, it will be organically implemented into all the eparchies worldwide, if it has not already been implemented in some of the eparchies. Other aspects of the Chaldean patrimony are also being restored slowly and organically.

The second best place I would say is St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church in Troy, Michigan. This used to be the parish of Mar Sarhad prior to his episcopal ordination. I think this is also where Fr. Andy grew up.

I have not seen some of the other Chaldean parishes, but from what I have seen with Mar Sarhad, his leadership seems to be exactly what Rome has been hoping for in this process of restoring the Chaldean patrimony.

God bless,

Rony
