Yes! We have new 5 deacons in the SVD! Last Saturday, June 30, 2007, Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle of the Diocese of Imus ordained as deacons five of our fraters in the Holy Spirit Chapel of Divine Word Seminary, Tagaytay, Philippines. The new deacons are:
(1) Rev. Arnold Biago, SVD;
(2) Rev. Jhon Crisostomo, SVD;
(3) Rev. Rico Glenn Deuna, SVD;
(4) Rev. Ross Heruela, SVD;
(5) Rev. Michael Tangente, SVD.
Bishop Tagle mentioned in his homily that the diaconate is a “humble and beautiful ministry.” He referred to the deacon as “servant of another servant” since he helps in the ministry of the bishop. He also highlighted that the diaconate is a “ministry at the threshold.”
The door of the Church is the entrance to the place of worship and the entrance to the world – the deacon stands there. He brings the works of creation to the altar of love and self-giving. In this way, the Church assumes the joys and pains of the world and gladly leads them to the reign of God.
