As always, I need to say that English is not my first language, so I apologize for any misspelling.

I heard about some saints that their bodies was clean and as it was the day they died. Actually right now I’m looking at some of the pictures. My question would be is, Couldn’t that be because of the mummification? I don’t know if the saints had that, but why would they open the grave, because I read some that opened the grave and found the saint’s body as it was when she/her died. Why would they open the grave in the first place?.

I know, I’m asking a lot of questions. This is something I really hate about myself, that I always always asking questions about EVERYTHING , I’m never gonna get married, am I ?

Mummification? HAHAHA I dont know of any culture that does mummification besides the ancient Egyptians 🙂

Some saints lived an extraordinarily holy life and when they died, their bodies became incorruptible, meaning, their bodies did not rot away like our sinful bodies would. Obviously this is the work of and a sign from God.

For example, there are some saints who have died for a very long time (like hundreds of years) but their bodies still appear as if they are sleeping.

Here check out these youtube videos:

Incorrupt Bodies of the Saints part 1

Incorrupt Bodies of the Saints part 2

there are more…

by the way, how old are you again? I’m sure one day will will find the right person and get married, if not you can go join a convent and live there 🙂

Good luck.

Let me thank you first for your answer. and second for the nice videos.

Another Question, Why people don’t believe in Catholicism in particular and Christianity in general when they visit places that have the bodies of saints? This is very very strange, I mean if that is " really what happen to the body without any one touch or play with it" what else do people need to at least think about it.

I’m in my 20s. About joining the convent. Hmmmm I guess you didn’t read my first topic here. I come from Muslim background.

Permit me to clarify that mummification does not preserve the body as perfectly as these saints’ bodies were preserved. The process of mummification essentially removes organs and moisture from the body, and salts it in such a way that it becomes all shrunken and dry. The Egyptians essentially turned the body into a piece of wood (so to speak) so that it wouldn’t rot.

The bodies of incorrupt saints are perfect. They have all the qualities of a person that died yesterday; it is impossible for mummification to attain this level of quality.

Thank you so much for the answer. so, it was my mistake to think it is mummification.
So, again the second questions is. Why do non Christian people do not believe that? what are the reasons they hold to not believe in Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular? I find it “stupid” that some people would just walk by this miracle and not think for a moment that there is really something supernatural about it.

In answer to your second question: I don’t know.

Perhaps the Church doesn’t advertise the presence of these miracles well enough. Perhaps people don’t think they are documented well enough. I honestly don’t know.

There are many people in the world who are closed-minded and automatically assume that there is something false or not realistic about believing in these miracles, but I really don’t understand this because many miracles are well-documented and proven.

Anything can be explained away.

Incorruptibility has been explained away as “the result of the chemistry in the ground, or the body, or both”.

If someone is determined not to believe, nothing, short of a number of the dead awakening and walking around, will convince them.

That wouldn’t even convince them. They’d attribute it to some trick and say that the people never died.

Hello Thebreak 🙂

Just wanted to say WELCOME TO CHRISTIANITY 🙂

And I agree with the other posts, some people just don’t like accepting saints, I don’t know why, they’re awesome.

I am sure you are right. Your statement even matches our LORD’s in Luke xvi.

It just STM that a mass rising of indubitably dead human beings would require a revising of everybody’s beliefs; however, the human capacity for denial is limitless.

I showed the videos to friend of mine, and he didn’t believe it, he thinks that the Church did something to make them look that way, and when I asked him if he believes in miracles? He answered “NO!”. It amaze me how people really think that such thing as miracles are not real. I wonder if God showed up to them, would they really worship him or they will keep arguing with him?? Sometimes the way people in the west think make me sick, yes, I said western people, because here in the east, the majority still believes that miracles happening, that is why I also left atheism, because I saw that atheism today, it is actually result of western’s thinking, it is something come out after the French revolution, maybe because of the Church’s “crimes” against humanity “as some people think”. so atheism came out of anger, and when something like that came out because of emotions, I can’t trust it anymore.
I might talk about the reason why I left atheism and become Christian in the future.

Saint Bernadette Soubirous is without doubt one of the most beautiful incorrupt bodies that there is;
After thirty years undisturbed in the tomb, Sister Marie Bernard’s body was exhumed for examination. The cause for sainthood had begun. When the stone was lifted from the vault, the coffin was immediately seen. It was carried to the room prepared for it and placed on two trestles covered with a cloth. On one side was a table covered with a white cloth. The remains of Bernadette were to be placed on this table. The wooden coffin was unscrewed and the lead coffin cut open to reveal the body in a state of perfect preservation. There was not the slightest trace of an unpleasant smell. The Sisters who had buried her thirty years earlier noted only that her hands had fallen slightly to the left. The words of the surgeon and the doctor, who were under oath, speak for themselves:
“The coffin was opened in the presence of the Bishop of Nevers, the mayor of the town, his principal deputy, several canons and ourselves. We noticed no smell. The body was clothed in the habit of Bernadette’s order. The habit was damp. Only the face, hands and forearms were uncovered.”
“The head was tilted to the left. The face was dull white. The skin clung to the muscles and the muscles adhered to the bones. The eye sockets were covered by the eyelids. The brows were flat on the skin and stuck to the arches above the eyes. The lashes of the right eyelid were stuck to the skin. The nose was dilated and shrunken. The mouth was open slightly and it could be seen that the teeth were still in place. The hands, which were crossed on her breast, were perfectly preserved, as were the nails. The hands still held a rusting rosary. The veins on the forearms stood out.”
“Like the hands, the feet were wizened and the toenails were still intact (one of them was torn off when the corpse was washed). When the habits had been removed and the veil lifted from the head, the whole of the shriveled body could be seen, rigid and taut in every limb. It was found that the hair, which had been cut short, was stuck to the head and still attached to the skull, that the ears were in a state of perfect preservation, that the left side of the body was slightly higher than the right from the hip up. The stomach had caved in and was taut like the rest of the body. It sounded like cardboard when struck. The left knee was not as large as the right. The ribs protruded as did the muscles in the limbs.”
“So rigid was the body that it could be rolled over and back for washing. The lower parts of the body had turned slightly black. This seems to have been the result of the carbon of which quite large quantities were found in the coffin.”
In witness of which we have duly drawn up this present statement in which all is truthfully recorded. Nevers, September 22, 1909, Drs. Ch. David, A. Jourdan.
The fact that Bernadette’s body was perfectly preserved is not necessarily miraculous. It is well known that corpses decompose to varying degrees in certain kinds of soil and may gradually mummify. However, in the case of Bernadette this mummification is quite astounding. Her illnesses and the state of her body at the time of death, and the humidity in the vault in the chapel of Saint–Joseph (the habit was damp, the rosary rusty and the crucifix had turned green), would all seem to be conducive to the decay of the flesh.

For many people out there these days, even if God came from heaven and stood in front of them, they would still not believe. In the Bible, even when Jesus did marvelous miracles like heal the sick, blind, deaf, raise the dead, feed the thousands of people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish etc there were still people who didn’t believe.

And regarding the Catholic Church’s “crimes against humanity” - I’ve been a Roman Catholic since I was born and never have the Catholic church taught me to do bad/evil things. The crimes that are committed comes from the evil desires of mankind, not from the Catholic Church.

On the contrary, I am taught to love, forgive, and have mercy on friends as well as enemies. If the Catholic Church teaches even one bad thing I would’ve left it along time ago. The people that support abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriages and pornography mainly happen to be atheists. Atheists aren’t only the baddies out there as there are other religions that teach immoral things too.

As I was growing up I started to question if God was real or not. I was starting to become agnostic, but eventually I searched and finally found God, or to put it better, God found me. In 2009 I met a priest who preached the Divine Mercy and he was like a living saint who could read your mind and problems even before you told him anything. That priest also prayed and many people got healed in-front of your eyes and he also received Christ-like pains and suffering so he could pray for the sinners and souls in purgatory.
