Having been a protestant for over 20 years I know what these denominations teach about the events in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. I also know that Catholics hold a different view.

Can anyone suggest some good books on the subject, not just on the rapture or the “4 last things,” but the entire book and its interpretation.

Thanks, Marie. Do you know who publishes it and how I can obtain it?

A wonderful book is Scott Hahn’s “The Lamb’s Supper”.

In addition to the above, I’d also recommend the Navarre Study Bible, Book of Revelation.

I can fully relate with you! I was a Southern Baptist preacher who thrived on the book of Rev. To get aquainted with Catholic prophesy I recommend Carl Olsen’s book, “Will Catholics Be Left Behind?” carl-olson.com/wcblb_book.html

But for some top notch commentary, I highly recommend the Church Fathers. St. Victorinus did a commentary on the whole book of Rev. newadvent.org/fathers/0712.htm

St. Augustine touched on chapters 20 and 21 of Rev in his book “The City of God.” Here is a link for you. It is in Books 20 and 21 of “The City of God.” newadvent.org/fathers/1201.htm

I have also done a work that is not published, but it is soley on the Church Age/1000 year reign of Christ. I can email it to you if you like.

I would recommend a book by Father William Kurz, *What the Bible Says About the End Times. *It is supposed to be a companion to *Rapture Trap *and Will Catholics Be Left Behind.

I would also recommend Scott Hahn’s tape series “The End”. Also, get the study guide that goes with it - it is the only way to remember what he says. I am using it for a Bible study on the Book of Revelation, and it is remarkable how he shows parallels not only to the Old Testament, but to what happened historically as well. I got my version from St. Joseph Communications.
He also quotes from various other sources about Revelation, especially a guy named Chilton. He is a Protestant, but had some very “Catholic” ideas concerning Revelation. I do know of one study leader from a different Catholic Church South of us here in Mid-Michigan who uses it. He says it is great as well. I can’t think of the name of the book, but Chilton is the author. You can probably find it at Amazon or somewhere like that.

David Currie’s book Rapture, which is also available from Amazon is the best evaluation of Revelations that I have ever read. I recommend it to anyone. It made the book unbelievably accesible and memorable for me. It is an incredibly detailed analysis that offers time line and interpretations of other apocalyptic passages in the Bible that he believes are necessary for understanding the full implications of Revelations.

I almost ran out of room in my Bible making notes from his text, but I have an awesome study Bible now! His email address is provided in the back of the book, and I am tempted to send him and email and thank him for writing it.

He use to be a Baptist minister (I think) and his study of the Bible lead him to convert to Catholicism. I only bring this up, because the book is kind of wirtten in a format of this is what I thought then. this is what I think now and why. Very helpful if you want to comapre the two approaches.

Bonnie…all the recommendations here are excellent, but I have to add my seconds to David Currie’s “Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind” This is the best researched book I’ve read on this topic and covers all the end times verses used to promote various views.

Scott Hahn stated in the preface, “Dave has written something remarkable here.” I couldn’t agree more. Check the reviews at amazon…blessings to you.

I second this! It’s close to 500 pages, but well worth taking the time to read and study. I’m on my second reading of it now. It not only talks about the book of Revelations, but also Daniel and the prophetic texts in the New Testament and other old Testament books and how they all come together.

If you have a group nearby, you may also want to investigate Catholic Scripture Study. They are offering a new course on Revelation this fall. Here is the description from their website, catholicscripturestudy.com:

**The Revelation to John (the Apocalypse) **– Our newest study! Dr. Scott Hahn brings us the ancient teaching on this book, which the early Church Fathers believed about the book of Revelation—that it is key to understanding the Mass! This study will begin with a 5-lesson preface series on the book Will Catholics Be “Left Behind?” by Carl E. Olson, which examines the false notion of a secret “rapture,” and the best-selling Left Behind books. Learn the true story about the theories promoted by this popular phenomenon.

The New American Standard has the best up to date footnotes. Dr. Hahn has incredible wisdom and is a strong supporter of our new Pope - even when, as the then Cardinal Ratzinger professed the Divinely Feminine Side of the Holy Spirit. Be advised, the Beast of Revelation might be found at www.istheBeast.com the Vatican issued an Internet user warning as a trailer to Rapid Development, the last major document of Pope John Paul II, that was important enough to rerelease as the new Pope Benedict’s first major document. ArchBishop Foley has deep insight. IHS Daryl
