My sister-in-law recently gave me Sera Beak’s new book, “Red Hot and Holy: A Heretic’s Love Story”. Sera says she is Catholic (www.SeraBeak.com). I am very confused by her book. She says that she has sex with men for healing sake. She talks about hearing from Jesus and Mary Magdalene and their daughter, Sarah. She seems to be blessed with hearing from God but many things she say upset me. I did not like the book at all. I am surprised my sister-in-law agrees with it. There are so many people that speak highly of her and her faith in her book reviews: amazon.com/Red-Hot-Holy-H…d+hot+and+holy.

I would like to know what other Catholics think.

Is this nonsense Christian or pagan? Is it really that difficult to discern?

A few silly book reviews do not make this a book worth reading for Catholics. I’m pretty sure she is not hearing from God, not so sure it isn’t the Other Guy.

This book is obviously trash.
Throw it into a dumpster and hope nobody finds it.

In the words of the late, great Tony Miles:

“Utter ****.”

(200 Elo points if anyone gets the reference.) 😃

I don’t have to read it. It is very clear to me that it is one more book that is written to steer people off course. Think of books like this as a cult. You can read your way into insanity. Just because it is the written word and says “Catholic” does not make it true or good. Start with more traditional writing. The Confessions of St Augustine or The Life of St Teresa of Avila might help you find your way better and also help you see that the saints had to deal with some of the same lies and cults that we presently see.

I know for certain that there are groups that pay and encourage others to write this kind of idiocy with some kind of a Catholic theme. The intention of course is to confuse or derail us from a more centered and truthful life. Put this book in your mind as one more Da Vinci code, perhaps without a thriller plot, but with the same careless but popular writing approach.

Does anyone ever write the follow-up to these poor souls and their followers who end up depressed, addicted, suicidal, with STD’s and in great need of true healing?

The devil can trick people into believing many things. She might think she has spoken to God, Jesus, etc. but that doesn’t make it true.

St John of the Cross

the devil causes many to believe in vain visions and false prophecies; and strives to make them presume that God and the saints are speaking with them; and they often trust their own fancy. And the devil is also accustomed, in this state, to fill them with presumption and pride, so that they become attracted by vanity and arrogance, and allow themselves to be seen engaging in outward acts which appear holy, such as raptures and other manifestations. Thus they become bold with God, and lose holy fear, which is the key and the custodian of all the
virtues; and in some of these souls so many are the falsehoods and deceits which tend to multiply, and so inveterate do they grow, that it is very doubtful if such souls will return to the pure road of virtue and true spirituality."

Frisbee-toss that book into the nearest Dumpster. :nunchuk:

The only thing “hot” about this book should be the temperature it will be at when deposit it into the fireplace.

Hot is also the temperature of the location where those “voices” are actually coming from.
