I’m hoping to hear some experiences of forum members with The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I teach CCD to a small group of kindergarteners, and another catechist recommended I look into the Montessori method as taught by Sofia Cavalletti.

Any (name removed by moderator)ut will be appreciated. This is my first year teaching.

I highly recommend CGS as an excellent approach to the catechesis of children. It is not a curriculum you teach from a book, but an environment you prepare where the child can fall more deeply in love with God. Be prepared to change your entire way of thinking about “teaching” children. Among other things, you will learn that the Montessori method and CGS work best in a mixed-age setting. Ideally, children will begin at age three and continue in the “level one” environment through K or 1st grade (3-6). Level two is for 6-9yos, etc.

My mentor in Montessori and CGS is conducting a pre-training discernment series in Houston. Email me privately if you are interested and I can put the two of you in touch.

Cheers!
