I read this in our local Diocese newspaper, as a way to bring religious ideas to the lyrical gifts mentioned in the Twelve Days of Christmas carol. I hope you enjoy contemplating these “Catholic gifts” during Advent!

1. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2. Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land.

3. Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted.

4. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.

*5. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. *

6. Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.

7. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

8. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Code:

The nine fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance)
Code:
 **Ten lords a-leaping**
The Ten Commandments
Code:
 **Eleven pipers piping**
The Apostles who remained faithful
Code:
 **Twelve drummers drumming**
The doctrines affirmed in the Apostles Creed:

1. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth,

2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord,

3. Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell.

5. The third day he rose again from the dead;

6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

8. I believe in the Holy Spirit,

9. I believe in the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,

10. The forgiveness of sins,

11. The resurrection of the body,

12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

I didn’t say the Carol had anything to do with Christian or Catholic doctrine - that’s the point of thinking about Catholic-oriented points for each day. It’s just a fun thing.
