Congratulate me my friends, I have recently and finally made a decision to join the RCIA classes to become Catholic. I’m a little nervous, I haven’t gone to the classes yet (I’m in the for the fall lineup ) and don’t really know what’s involved.
What are the classes like?
Is there a ceremony for graduation in the church like confirmation? and what would a fine lady like me wear lol? Is it an event that requires special clothing just another church service with a little announcement?

I have never been to confession and have only seen it on tv. Do they expect people to go in with everything they have ever done 'cause that could take a while lol and I know that Christ has already forgiven me, I just don’t know what to expect from confession.

🙂 I’m a little excited about it.

I am very happy that you decided to join the Catholic Church. As for the ceremony and confession, I am sure your RCIA instructors and/or your parish priest(s) will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Again, welcome and may God Bless you on your journey! 🙂

Congratulations!!! You will be thoroughly prepared by the RCIA Team for all of this.

There is no graduation!!! It often feels that way, but you are starting a journey that only ends at death not your confirmation!

That said, yes there will be a big to do most likely at your confirmation that will likely take place at Easter vigil or around Easter next year.

If you aren’t baptized you will be baptized at that time and that washes away all your sins.

If you have been baptized you will go to confession and confess all your mortal sins from your baptism. Take as long as you need to for that. It’s expected to take a while and they will set aside a special time for it.

Anyway, they will help you with all that.

Enjoy the journey and just worry about turning more toward Christ everyday.

Tiber Swim Team Class of 2016 here! Congratulations on entering RCIA! You’re in for a fun ride! Now to answer your questions.

The structure classes can vary from parish to parish. In my case, we had RCIA every Tuesday. A speaker, who had at least an M.Th, would talk to us about some basic Catholic teaching, starting from God, and ending with the Sacraments and Evangelization. We then discussed and asked questions. We were in groups with at least two people, Table Leaders, who were Catholics. People from the previous year’s RCIA class were amongst the Table Leaders.

Your graduation ceremony is receiving the Sacraments. 😛 We had a reception after Easter Vigil to celebrate, but that was about it.

In regards to Confession, my first question for you would be: Have you been baptized? If you have not been baptized, you will be suggested not to go to Confession. Baptism will wipe clean all of the sins of your life, so there is no need. If you have been baptized, the only things you are required to confess are mortal sins. You may of course confess your venial sins, and this is a good practice. But regardless, whatever you do confess, be genuinely sorry for it, and resolve to try not to do it again. You may want to wait until your RCIA class talks about Confession, and since it will be your first Confession, the Priest will help walk you through it. If you have been baptized and think this will take a while, feel free to talk to your Priest and schedule a time for you both to do your First Confession. Also, if you have been baptized, you must do confession before you receive your sacraments.

I hope this helps! 😃

Hello!

That’s very cool that you’re going to the RCIA classes. I was baptized when I was still a baby, and it is so humbling to see someone enter the Catholic Church. It is very interesting that a lot of the staff at Catholic Answers are converts. I will pray for you, please pray for me as well, for I need the prayers of people like you.

:blessyou:

Not only have I been baptized with water, I have even been baptized in the Holy Ghost and it is the most incredible feeling in the entire world to say the least. I literally felt as though I had died and gone to heaven.
I guess the old sad parts of me did die and I have never experienced such joy. 🙂

I would be more than happy to pray for you. Didn’t Jesus say that is someone asks you to walk with them one mile than to go with them two?
I’m praying hard my friend 🙂

RCIA is awesome!! My wife and I miss it dearly. We enjoyed going, talking, and learning every Tuesday. Welcome Home!!! The Catholic Church is amazing. Tiber swim team 2016 for my wife, two little girls, and myself!! In our parish we had people cook every Tuesday night, a lot of grillin going on down south!!

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

First of all, congratulations!!!

As for a “graduation,” there really isn’t one. This is the start of your journey into Catholicism and you will continue your journey well after you become Catholic.

My RCIA director didn’t want to tell us what was going to happen, as to not ruin it for us. I assure you it is beautiful and reverent.

As for Confession, your RCIA director and priest can tell you what to expect.

Welcome to the ever growing number who have chosen to be Catholic! (and Congratulations!)

Remembering you in my daily prayers. God bless, and welcome home 🙂
