In the document, “Male and Female He Created Them,” the Catholic Church unequivocally rejects any gender ideology that denies the intrinsic biological differences between men and women, or that treats gender as something that people choose for themselves.

The document clearly lays out exactly why Gender Theory is incompatible with historic Christian teaching about the human person

Yes, there is a link to the document itself at the end of the original post.

This document was released over a year ago…but is still good reading.

This is a bit off topic. Leaving aside transgenderism, there are exceptions to male/female division. Intersex people are born with both female and male parts. It’s a very trying condition and not at all a choice.

People tend to forget that there’s a difference between transgender and intersex. I agree with the CC about transgenderism. But so far, the intersex population is being overlooked. They are such a tiny percentage of the population that people tend to lump them in with the transgenders.

The question is, how can we as Christians help people with gender dysphoria?

I don’t trust the reliability of mainstream medical and psychological sources, who claim that life gets better after these procedures.

There are anecdotal cases of regret after going through reassignment surgeries.

Maybe there is a means of helping people overcome gender dysphoria. I’m not talking about anything forced or Draconian. But shouldn’t people be counseled in a balanced way before they take irreversible steps?

Certainly, but I don’t know what the answer is. They used to send them to conversion therapy, but that isn’t approved of anymore.

What do you think of this?

I get the impression that people have to go to counselors before starting the transition process. But I don’t know whether they screen out people who have issues other than gender dysphoria.

If mental illness is clouding their judgment, they should get that problem treated before they make such a serious decision – especially if it involves surgery.

I suspect that a lot of money grubbing is involved in the decision to transition someone. It’s likely that they take advantage of people with mental illness.

Money grubbing may indeed play a part in the process.

I just read that doctors can treat adolescents with puberty-suppressing hormones. This is a critical time of mental and physical development.

Why in the world would parents allow this?

I fear I am straying off-topic.

Reduce the use of plastics and other products which contain substances that behave as pseudo-hormones. Also, find a mechanism that keeps synthetic hormones from contaminating water sources. When it comes to animals, reduce the use of hormones in farming, especially the food supply.

Limit children’s use of social media and other forms of media.

With the ecological pollution by hormones, plastics, flame retardants, etc., there is no doubt in my mind that most of our transgendered people who have felt like the wrong gender in their bodies since earliest memory are actually born “transgender”.

Natural hormones, synthetic hormones, and pseudo-hormones have drastic effects on life forms, including humans. The physical body does not have to be intersex for an issue to occur. There is only so much a placenta can do to keep pollutants from reaching a developing human embryo and interfering with the future thought processes of that human being. In other words, much of the changes we are seeing probably go all the way back to when the person was smaller than the size of a tiny grain of rice in their mama’s womb.

I think increasing cases of autism might be attributable to the pollutants as well, because there are too many children who haven’t been vaccinated that have autism spectrum diagnoses.

I think good strong family life would help, but it’s easier said than done.

My daughter has plenty of friends who are having babies (my daughter has struggled with endometriosis for 3 years now). One of her friends has a little boy, and when he was only a very young boy, around 3, he asked if he could wear a dress.

What would you, a mom or dad, have said?

I would have said, “No, you’re a boy.” No rancor. No anger. No silliness. Just straightforward denial of a request. I might have added, “Would you like to wear your Star Wars shirt now?” as a way of distracting him from his idea about wearing a dress. (Distraction is a great technique for getting toddlers to stop doing something that is not a good thing to be doing at a certain given time; e.g., screaming during Mass.)

Is that what you would have said? Simply, “No.”

But this young woman assumed that since her little boy was asking to wear a dress that he has gender dysphoria. So she not only allowed him to wear the dress, but bought him a wardrobe of girls’ clothing and a selection of girls’ toys, and started raising him as a girl! Over one question!

He seems to be having trouble adjusting. Well, duh!

She attributes his reluctance to his dysphoria, and of course, to those relatives and friends who disagree with her encouraging him to live as a girl.

Sigh.

I wonder how many other young parents are making the same kind of foolish, ignorant parenting choices when it comes to their child’s gender! It’s no wonder that we are hearing story after story on national news media about transgender children!

Unbelievable, isn’t it?

I do agree with those who are bringing up “intersex.” This is a real medical situation, not a “mental” illness. There is a physiological manifestation of the condition.

I would be terrified of my child getting cancer from all those hormones.

Actually, not everybody with gender dysphoria chooses to medically transition. Some of them don’t want the medical procedures for one reason or another. I personally know people who just stay in their biological body but define themselves as the gender they want to be (either opposite of their bio gender, or gender fluid). It seems possible to have a pretty good life without surgery or hormones.

I used to pretend to be a boy when I was young. I never wanted to be a boy. It was make believe.

Between the ages of 3 and 5, my nephew would get out his mother’s high heels and prance around. I’d laugh and clap. We never made a big deal out of it.

When he was about 8 or so, he found a musical on TV, and he was dancing along with the women. Again, I didn’t make a deal out of it. I just said, “Let’s watch some baseball.”

He never said he wanted to be a girl. He was just playacting. He outgrew that phase when puberty hit.
