My brother asked me if I knew of any Catholic perspectives on this book. I remember hearing things a few years ago when the book came out, but I cannot remember what was said. Has anyone here read the book and have any comments on it?
 
I haven’t read it, but from what I’ve heard, it silly and pointless. More Baby-Boomer “New Age” self-indulgence. There are plenty of other things to read.
 
Yes, that is what I thought. But he said that his friend told him even though there was only a little mention of God in it, that he was easily able to “Christianize” it. I am skeptical of that. Do you know of anyhting specifically that is in the book that is contrsry to Christianity, especially Catholiscm?

I read the whole series I’m ashamed to say, I could have been reading the CCC or the Scriptures instead of wasting my time with this foolishness.:o
 
Having read the Celestine Prophecy, i can tell you the main problem i see with “Christianizing” it would be similar to what is wrong with Christianizing the enneagram. When you start off with something not based in Christ and try to fit it into the mold, it quickly becomes apparent there are some fundamental problems with the teachings that can’t be reconciled and so must be glossed over and left contradictory. In the Celestine Prophecy, the knowledge they were seeking was “secret”, which smacks of Gnosticism. It also tends to be more about gaining personal power than opening yourself up to receiving God’s grace. In other words, the emphasis is on what you can learn to do, not what you allow God to do through you. I guess i could see similarities between looking for signs and accepting there is something to be learned from where you are and guidance from the Holy Spirit, but why would you waste time trying to Christianize something when there are so many wonderful Christian writers that don’t need any alteration and pose no danger to your immortal soul? It seems like someone who wants to dabble in something like that needs to examine their motives and see if they’re not being led astray. 😦
P.S. I was very Wicca when i read this book and i thought it was very spiritual. :rolleyes:
