I am sorry to criticize Bishop Gracida, but he states his opinions without supporting them with facts or even reasoning. He even admits it at one point:
I do not have statistical evidence, only anecdotal evidence, but it seems to me that the fundamental reason was because of the social character of the poor in New Orleans.
I don’t doubt that two parent families would have twice the chance at staying in touch with their children in the event of a catastrophe. But he seems to be claiming more than that.

And his statement that the only way “traditional marriage between a man and a woman can be protected is through the enactment of an amendment to the United States Constitution” barring gay marriage seems heartfelt but perhaps misguided. Given the high divorce rate in our country, finding a way to reduce the breakup of marriages might be a better way to protect marriage.
