The 16th to 18th centuries were the most sorrowful and degrading period in the history of the Jews in Catholic Europe. The introduction of ghettos and “Jews-streets,” in the sense of compulsory places of residence for Jews only, spread rapidly in the 16th century. The Jewish badge was enforced everywhere, and Jewish socioeconomic activity was strictly regulated. Blood libels were frequent, especially in Poland, despite the stand taken against them by several popes. Conversion was pursued vigorously. One of the last instances of a forced conversion was that of the*Mortara child, in 1858 in Bologna, which aroused protests among Christians, too, the world over.

So, from my last two posts, what can we say about the catholic god of SirThomas?

It seems that at times the popes said one thing for public consumption and yet, the church leadership did nothing to prevent catholics from killing innocent people and forcing jews to convert.

Truly amazing that a catholic can begin to be critical of the mormon faith when history can also condemn the catholic church. No one doesn’t have a skeleton in their closet.

Once again, this is a strawman arguement.

Your entire arguement rests on the fact that we’re claiming Mormons are more sinful than Catholics. We’re not, nor are we claiming that the Catholics didn’t do some hypocritical things in regards to the Jews.

What we ARE saying is that all these things you speak of were NEVER, EVER official positions of the Church, nor did any Catholic authority infallibly declare that persecution of the Jews was taught by God. This is in contrast to the Mormon teaching of racism. Mormon Prophets claimed that racism was taught by God. Catholic authorities NEVER claimed that racism, persecution of the Jews, or child molestation was taught by God. The Mormon Prophets DID claim that racism was taught by God. You’re still arguing a strawman.

No one denies that Catholics in history did some horrible things, as did Mormons in the past.

What we’re denying is that Catholic authorites ever claimed, unlike Mormon authorities, that racism is taught by God. You’re still arguing a strawman.

You keep asserting this without any evidence. Please demonstrate when the Catholic Church universally restricted the priesthood from a racial group, or universally denied a racial group access to a sacrament, or dogmatized any racial teaching. In reference to the dogma, please reference the applicable Ecumenical Council or instance of Papal Infallibility. This is what you’ve responded “yes you have” to.

What is more telling is that the LDS church has stated that it is by commandment of God that blacks are restricted from the priesthood. The Catholic Church has never made such a claim. That is the real issue here despite your posturing.
No sir, the question is hypocrisy.

Which is better: an organization that pays lipservice to equality, but in the actions shows not only inequality, but a very long history of behaving precisely the opposite of what it claims to believe,

Or an organization that lives according to its doctrines, for good or ill—and, when some policy is changed, makes that change instantly?

You are defending your own history and excusing it…and you need to read Matthew 23:24-30.

Oh, you are saying…but it was LDS POLICY…

Well, I think you should pay attention to your own whited sepulchres, my friend. Here’s the thing: we Mormons may have been wrong…maybe not. However, when God told us that something was right, or wrong, we paid attention. We did not use the excuse that blacks were not allowed the priesthood to enslave them, and when OUR doctrine told us that the priesthood was to be given to all worthy male members, we paid attention. Instantly, and with joy.

You are here so proud that you were never taught that blacks weren’t equal, or could not be priests…but which is worse…to listen to a prophet and change something that important overnight, Or to be taught that everybody is equal, and to ignore those teachings for 1500 years?

The attitude of the Catholics here who criticise the Mormons is the epitome of the hypocritical Pharisee, who feels superior to all men because, even though his actions were more sinful, more murderous than those upon whom he looks down, at least was TAUGHT better.

Shame on you.

That’s like saying that what Pol Pot did doesn’t matter, or mean anything in regard to his regime, because all the laws he was ignoring were good ones.
