Please read this ( very hard to read b/c of how false it is ) landoverbaptist.org/sermons/dangcatholics.html

This Baptist “preacher” proclaims the so called “truths” of the Catholic church. The article is very unfactual an even perverse. Brothers and Sisters I realize that throughout our lives we will be bombarded with hateful and false facts going against the faith but how should I defend my faith? We are constantly told that we worship Mary and the saints or that confessing our sins to a priest is wrong. How exactly shall I go about protecting my faith from the false thoughts and opinions of others?

I didn’t spend a whole lot of time checking out that web site, but even a few minutes perusing leads me to belive that this cannot be a legitimate church. It appears to be a skillfully devised if ill-conceived parody of conservative Christian sites. No doubt those responsible for its creation have a low opinion of Catholicism, but it’s plain to see that they also have no love for any Christian church.

This site, although offensive, is a satire site and they make fun of all sorts of people. It is not a real church/denomination.

Thankyou, I should have looked it up. Besides the fact how do you excateky go about defending the faith?

I tell you what though. They sure have all the Protestant objections correct.

Some of these doctrines, I have questioned myself on this very forum!

I say, the best thing to do is to truly understand what Catholicism is about and ask questions.

That site is right when it says a lot of Catholics don’t know what they believe in.

I think it’s called poor Catechism.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.”
–2 Tim. 2:15.

First, know your stuff. Know what the church actually teaches. Also be willing and able to “look it up” if you need to prove something to someone

Second, don’t be afraid to say, “I don’t know” to any question you dont know the answer to or are unclear on. Always follow this up with , “But I’ll find out and get back to you” and then follow through.

Third - Stick to the facts and require that they do also. For instance if they say we worship Mary or the Saints, or that we have a works based salvation, ask them to produce the “Church Document” that teaches this.

Fourth - If they DO produce something (usually a catholic quote in a non-catholic book) thank them and then explain that, since they don’t have the full document or whatever, you would like to look into it a bit further.
This often happens with quotes from councils (they love to quote Trent) and their quotes can sound quite convincing until you look at the quote within the full context of the document(s)

Fifth - stay calm and cool and speak only in Charity. Explain, if necessary, that it is not your intent to convert, but only to ensure that they have the real and true church teachings.

Hope this helps.

Peace
James

Practice, practice and then when times get tough, practice the faith again with prayer and fasting.

Paul expressed a great joy for his persecutions as he worked out his faith with fear and trembling.

May you find joy, knowing that God will never leave you. Matthew 5; 11
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.
12
10 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Peace be with you

I was raised anti-Catholic. I was an anti-Catholic. I confess it - I cannot deny my nearly 3 1/2 decades of feeling comfortable anything, as long as it wasn’t Catholic.

Let me tell you what made me overcome this: Catholics. I married one (I swore I never would!!) and neither he nor his family have pressured me to do anything I am not comfortable doing. Granted, my husband was not concerned about “following the rules” when we married - his role in my process is another story for another time.

My father married Catholic. Out of respect for his new family, I pray with them before dinner, attend my siblings’ church events, and spend the major holidays in their church. Again, invitation only - no pressure.

So far, everything I heard about Catholics has yet to be witnessed. I started seeing them as happy, emotionally healthy people who have no issue with me being different. I’m the one with the issue.

I have presented my “anti-Catholic” arguments with them and they just smile and shrug and say “well, it’s not really like that.” And they don’t argue, because they know that I don’t really want to know, I am just repeating the rhetoric which I have learned.

I have my own story about what has drawn me to the Church, and I understand now that it was very important in God’s plan for this to happen independent of my family. Different story for a different day. My point? I saw who Catholics are, and I learned to respect them for living what they believe. Every Protestant I grew up with was happy to argue doctrine and theology from their own perspective, but my Catholic family defends their faith by living their lives. They have set the ultimate example for me of love, charity, and faith.

Thank you for sharing icamay that was a heartfelt commentary and welcome to the forums 🙂
