Can anyone out there explain to me what the Cusillo Movement is? I went to the website and I still don’t know.

Cursillo mean “little course”; it is a "little course in Christianity. It begins (usually) with a Cursillo weekend (about 3 days) and continues with groupings of Cursillestas meeting weekly/monthly for support. The focus is to bring the faith into the world: work, to neighbors etc. They also meet at Ultreyas which are regular gatherings of a larger group. People who are not Cursillestas may also go to Ultreyas (that’s why I said it usually starts with the weekend.)

I think one of the biggest misunderstandings/mistakes is that Cursillo is a weekend. The most important part of Cursillo happens after the weekend, in the groupings (there may be a formal name for those) and Ultreyas and the evangelization that is the mission of Cursillo. For many the weekend is a turning point in their life.

I haven’t done a cursillo, but my mom was very active in the movement (secretariat and some other thing) but now just does her groupings as she has faithfully for years.

If you have more specific questions I can try to find out the answer for you.

Cursillo is not just a Catholic movement. My uncle is an ELCA Lutheran pastor; he and his wife “run” groups.

I don’t know much about it; only that it is not just for Catholics:)

It began in the Catholic Church in Spain. Catholics go on a Catholic Cursillo, Lutherans go on a Lutheran Cursillo, it is not a ecumenical group where there are mixed groups. As has been said it is a "short course " in Christianity . There is a weekend, and meetings in groups later. The purpose is living out your baptismal promises to the fullest extent in Christian life.Evangelization is also an important element. A Catholic must be in good standing with the church- able to receive all the Sacraments in order to participate. In general you must be a mature Christian. Converts usually wait two years until they may go. .

I don’t know what they did with the National website . It used to have a ton of info on it .

A local marriage and family center called “The Good News Center” just announced a Mens Cursillo Weekend. I do know that it is based upon Catholicism (or at least claims to be) and states there will be daily Mass, priestly speakers, etc. Two things worry me however; I have never heard of it (which could mean nothing) and the webpage for The National Cursillo Center seems very poorly done and extremely vague. Has anyone had any experience with it or even have taken the course?

God Bless,

Jeff

This is what i got from answers.com
Cursillos in Christianity (in Spanish: Cursillos de Cristiandad) is a ministry that originated in the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in Majorca, Spain by a group of laymen in 1944, while they were refining a technique to train pilgrimage leaders. It has since been adapted by numerous other Christian faiths, some of them retaining the name “cursillo” while others have given the program a different name. The word “cursillo” means “short course” in Spanish.
The cursillo method focuses on training lay people to become effective leaders over the course of a three-day weekend. The weekend includes fifteen talks, some given by priests and some by lay people. One emphasis of the weekend is on preparing those undergoing it to take the movement’s methods back into the world, on what they call the “fourth day”.
