The funeral of jp2 for me as a young catholic has had a MASSIVE impact in my life. What was your opinion of the whole event?

The whole thing (death of JP, funeral of JP, election of Benedict, first mass of Benedict) really woke me up, and I started to take a greater interest in Church history, sprituality, and the sacrements. What I found is a goldmine. The depth of the Church is amazing.

I was in airports for both the funeral of JPII and Benedict’s first Mass. There were crowds of people around the TVs in the bars and waiting areas, mostly reverent and interested, asking intelligent questions, was able to answer a few of them. I think seeing those televised events was a real education and evangelization to thousands of people.

Same here actually - the seeds didn’t sprout until about six months after, but it surely contributed.

As I watched the coverage with my husband (a non-Catholic), I began to realize more than ever what a treasure our faith is. Having been raised Catholic, I was able to answer many of his questions, but some I could not. As I searched for answers to the questions, I discovered that I wanted to learn as much as I could. It was a turning point in my faith.

I agree. I had tons of people at work and such ask me questions. i think it made a lot of people stop and wonder why is it such a big deal that the pope died? If my pastor died we would be sad but the whole world wouldn’t stop like it did for JPII. Or wow they have a lot of history and tradition…Maybe it has started getting people to think more about the tradition of their own churches and they will see the catholic church for the beauty that she is!
