The devil and the Cross

This may be a dumb question, but if the devil knew that Jesus would forever save the world from their sins by dying for the salvation of mankind. Why on earth didnt he try to stop the cross, stop the beatings, stop the horrible death? I mean hes smart enough to know the scriptures too. Why didnt he try to stop the cross instead of having him tormented to death? It doesnt make sense.

It’s debated about how much the demons and satan knew about God’s plan of salvation. I think it’s clear that they recognized who Jesus was. They’re not idiots. However, it must’ve been debated as how best to deal with Jesus. The devil tried temptation and it didn’t work. Essentially, it was a Lose/Lose situation. Let him live and he continues preaching and if you kill him he’s gonna redeem humanity and come back :man_shrugging:t2:

When Jesus was tempted by the Devil

When Peter challenged Jesus

When Pilate tried to let Jesus go

And likely more times than we will ever know.
