Tonight was my final RCIA class! In 10 days I come into full communion with the Church and I am beyond excited!!!

As class ended, our priest said that we all needed to be especially vigilant as the devil would be hard at work against us during these upcoming days.
What did he mean?
How do I protect myself?

Thanks for your help!

He is right. The enemy will try to distract you and tempt you especially in this final period because it is his last chance to snatch you from the true faith and the path to salvation! Pray and meditate.

I am so excited for you!! I joined the Church last year, and Father said the very same thing to us. His suggestions were to be vigilant in prayer, to remember the power of the Sign of the Cross and to cling to Mary and the saints. And to get some Holy Water! So I did all those things and prepared myself for battle, lol. I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from coming into full communion with the Church. I will be praying for you and rejoicing with you! You’ve got this!!

I’m excited for you, and your Priest is absolutely correct! I found myself feeling guilty that I was letting my parents down (they are Baptist). I purchased a St. Michael thumb medal after someone gave me the St. Michael prayer - which I prayed a lot. I also went to Adoration and just sat and listened. No more doubts or guilt after that.

Welcome. I am very happy for you!

Be sure to include your Guardian Angel, Saint Michael the Archangel, and Saint Benedict in your daily prayers. They will protect you. I also recommend devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, as it is she who crushes the head of the serpent with her heel. A daily rosary is a powerful tool. The devil will attempt to inject doubt into your mind, and try to distract you while you are praying. Try not to dwell on these distractions and he will get tired and move on— for a while, anyway, but he never gives up. I wish you the very best.

Stay humble before our God. Serve Him with praise & thanksgiving. Ask for His mercy.

A few ways the devil can get to you:
  • Bring up doubt, especially those that might have been gnawing at you but never really addressed.
  • If you struggle with mortal sin, temptation to fall into it.
  • Going after insecurities and relationships that may leave you uncertain.
For protection, be sure to pray and attend Mass. The Rosary can help a lot. If you are a candidate and have any unconfessed mortal sin, be sure to get to confession. This includes first confession if you haven’t had it already. (This isn’t required if you’re an elect and will be receiving baptism.)

it’s a fairly common phenomenon for those in rcia to experience sudden and severe periods of doubt of discouragement before entering the church. that’s probably what he’s referring to

I would add to that, the first year after you come into the Church will likely be difficult.

Stay connected to your parish, volunteer, get involved.

It can be a time of testing. But it also brings the opportunity of strengthening our faith when the existence and nature of evil reveals itself that much more openly! Be strong, Satan has only so much power.

I was pretty wound up and stressed out, yet excited. I knew it was the single most… very best… thing I had ever done in my entire life and I was right.

The devil is back stage from time to time, but don’t concern yourself with it unless things star feeling too wacky, then ask Our Mother for help, and yes, welcome home!
