As our Catholic faith is guided by the Holy Spirit, especially through our pope, how was Judaism preserved? Who held the authoritative position over what was true and what wasn’t? How were the infallible truths of Judaism upheld and guarded against corruption. Is there OT scripture declaring that Judaism was guided by the Holy Spirt?? Thank you and God bless!!

Jesus tells us that it is the Scribes and Pharisees who sit in Moses seat. Jesus indicates that Jewish Sanhedrin have similiar power to Apostolic Successors power to “hold sins bound”. Jesus says, “answerable to the Sanhedrin, and if he holds him in contempt he risks the fires of Gehenna.” Jesus makes it quite clear that Jewish leaders are not infallible.

NAB MATTHEW 23:1

Then Jesus told the crowds and his diciples: “The scribes and the Pharisees have succeeded Moses as teachers; therefore, do everything and observe everything they tell you. But do not follow their example.”

NAB MATTHEW 5:22

What I say to you is: everyone who grows angry with his brother shall be liable to judgement; any man who uses abusive language toward his brother shall be** answerable to the Sanhedrin,** and if he holds him in contempt he risks the fires of Gehenna.

NAB MARK 7:9

He went on to say: "You have made a fine art of setting aside God’s commandment in the interests of keeping your traditions! For example, Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and in another place, ‘Whoever curses father or mother shall be put to death.’ Yet you declare, If a person says to his father or mother, Any support you might have had from me is korban’ (that is, dedicated to God), you allow him to do nothing more for his father or mother. That is the way you nullify God’s word in favor of the traditions you have handed on."

NAB MATTHEW 5:20

I tell you, unless your holiness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees you shall not enter the kingdom of God."

NAB MATTHEW 26:59

The chief priests, with the whole Sanhedrin
, were busy trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death.

What impresses me is that the worship at the Temple has ended.

It didn’t happen right away after the Resurrection, but it did come to an end. Now, I’m sure the orthodox Jewish rabbis have an explanation or rationalization for it. The sacrifice demanded of the OT is still valid to the Jews. Some actually propose rebuilding the Temple and performing the sacrifices.

The rending of the veil of the Temple during the crucifixion symbolizes the passing of the gulf between God and man. From the Christian point of view that has since emerged, the Old Covenant is done, and the new covenant is confirmed in the blood of Jesus Christ.

St. Paul emphasizes that circumcision is no longer required and neither are the requirements of the Law.

but, essentially, I am not aware of this Divine protection that you refer to. I’ll watch this thread myself.

I assume the OP was asking if there was any “high-priestly infallibility” or “dogmatic councils” or “the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Temple.” Jewish pre-types to the Catholic faith.
