How long does the real presence of Jesus last after communion? What happens after we leave mass, is Jesus still with us like he was when we first recieved during communion?

Can you recommend a good book on the Eucharist?

The Catechism says:

1377 The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration and endures as long as the Eucharistic species subsist. Christ is present whole and entire in each of the species and whole and entire in each of their parts, in such a way that the breaking of the bread does not divide Christ.

The Eucharistic species subsist as long as their accidents are discernable – Probably no more than 15 minutes in the average digestive system.

Once the accident of bread and wine do not exist anymore (they are digested) there is no more physical presence.

Can you recommend a good book on the Eucharist?

There’s a great little booklet published by the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska entitled The Little Catechism on the Holy Eucharist. It’s pocket-sized, only 70 pages long, and summarizes Catholic beliefs and practices regarding the Eucharist. It also has some prayers and information on indulgences.

It wasn’t very expensive when I got it (a dollar or two?). Inside my copy it says:
